It was a a “Tea Party” convention last Friday night in Nashville. WorldNetDaily’s Joseph Farah gave a 40-minute talk, 10 minutes of which revolved around Obama’s birth certificate.
Andrew Breitbart, a conservative publisher and former editor for the Drudge Report, clashed with Farah in the hall with some harsh words that are reported by David Weigel of the Washington Independent. The basic disagreement was whether the “birther” questions are a winning or losing issue.
The various exchanges are fascinating, and I won’t take thunder from the Washington Independent (who also have an audio clip) by pasting them in here. I do want to mention one comment Farah made to Weigel afterwards:

I think this may be largely true. Even though the stories WorldNetDaily are quickly debunked (like the nonexistent travel ban to Pakistan in 1981), and they are more innuendo than fact, they persist and WND has a large readership.
We also discovered that Sarah Palin needed to write notes on her hand to remember her talking points…Which is ironic considering she was the one blaiming the President for using his teleprompter…You can’t make this stuff up…

“Wouldn’t you say,” asked Schilling, “in this case, that Farah is asking Obama to prove something rather than his disprove it?”
Breitbart rejected the premise. “When has a president ever been asked to prove his citizenship?”
Exactly…When has a President ever been asked to prove his citizenship….
I’m not accusing Joseph Farah, but I read on the Internet that barnyard animals become skittish when Farah is around.
All he has to do is prove this is nothing more than a scurrilous rumor. Why doesn’t he? And what about those Glenn Beck rumors that won’t die?

Yes, it would be truly embarrassing if WND had ever reported on a Pakistan travel ban that didn’t exist. However, since no such report by WND has ever been made, it would seem your website is the one with the egg on its face.

One cannot blame Farah for not being too familiar with his own publication, but we can hold him accountable for making foolish claims about it.
The article to which I linked is full of what I have come to expect from WND: inaccuracies, innuendo and foolish claims.

Mr Farah: I’m sure while you were at the conference you took the opportunity to ask Sarah Palin for her vault birth certificate, since she is making noises about running for President in 2012. I just know you would never be so unfair as to not demand the exact same documentation from ALL candidates as you have from Mr Obama. You of course demanded her complete college records as well, I’m sure. The fact that she attended 5 institutions over 6 years before graduating is something many voters will be interested in, particularly in view of her failure to complete her turn as Governor.
I am sure you can also supply us with links to the articles you wrote demanding long-form birth certificates from George Bush as well as the other Presidents during your adult life. I only mention this because you are known for being “fair and balanced”.
Farah’s most outrageous comment was in my opinion
If he were not the owner of WND, he would have been long fired for failing to do his job.
You couldn’t be the real Joseph Farah. No publisher even of a rag like the WND wouldn’t know what was printed in said rag.
Especially, since Sarah Palin was born in Kenya!
Farah is a journalist alright! His skill is limited to journalistic noise, fast food and yellow journalism.

Unlike that propaganda mill you run, this site takes some pains only to publish things which are true and can be documented. And further, when this site does make a mistake, it is quickly corrected. The fake travel ban to Pakistan story you published, of course, had no documentation whatever. It was a pure fabrication on somebody’s part, and either an intentional lie by your site, or inexcusable negligence. You are a source of a major piece of misinformation that has been repeated thousands of times.
I do not know if you are mincing words when you say “report”. The travel ban appears in an article by Janet Folger Porter published on your site. This is what you published:
If you say that you didn’t know the story was there, then I’m sure you will immediately publish a feature article linking to the State Department documents showing that there was no ban, and thereby correct the public record.

Yet again, on that 25 November 2008 article, you repeated the claims from “Polarik” about the birth certificate being forgery. AND you’ve been making money off of the “Where’s the Birth Certificate ads.

The lies and propaganda that WND has published since President Obama was running for President is too numerous to mention. To think that he would have the guts to post that his site never wrote something is amazing. It reminds me of how his site for over a year had the article about verifying the COLB while writing articles stating it was a forgery, and finally when confronted with this information, instead of owning up to it put the silliest disclaimer on the article…
