Hey Boy! Fetch me that I-9 form

According to the Sonoran News, a birther-friendly conservative web site in Arizona, Linda Jordan, a Seattle woman used the E-Verify system to check Obama’s employment eligibility. She claims to have gotten a “Notice of Mismatch with the Social Security Administration records.”

Jordan (as one of Obama’s employers) has written the President, asking him to fill out an I-9 form verifying his name, social-security number and citizenship status.

Logic only a birther could love.

E-Verify is a service of the US Department of Homeland Security. Users of the system must first electronically sign a Memorandum of Understanding that states:

The Employer agrees not to use E-Verify procedures for pre-employment screening of job applicants, in support of any unlawful employment practice, or for any other use not authorized by this MOU.

Since Obama is not a “new hire” (nor an employee of Ms. Jordan) I’d say she violated the agreement.

The Employer acknowledges that the information which it receives from SSA is governed by the Privacy Act (5 U.S.C. § 552a(i)(1) and (3)) and the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 1306(a)), and that any person who obtains this information under false pretenses or uses it for any purpose other than as provided for in this MOU may be subject to criminal penalties.

Arpaio defends birther posse

In an interview with Phoenix TV station KNXV, Sheriff Joe Arpaio defends his action in appointing a posse to investigate Tea Party allegations that Barack Obama committed election fraud by running for President as an non-eligible candidate.

"First of all, about 300 people signed petitions," Arpaio said of the investigation into Obama’s birth certificate. "I am the chief law enforcement officer, they asked me to look at that situation. I don’t dump everything in the wastebasket. So I have my ‘Cold Case Posse’ which I’ve had for five years. It’s free; it doesn’t cost a penny to the taxpayers. Made up of ex-cops and some lawyers, so let them look at it."

Taitz on Capitol Hill

Orly Taitz was in DC last week petitioning Congress. Salon.com did an article with some details. Do you imagine that Salon got a different slant on the visit from congressional staffers than what Orly wrote on her web site?

Allen West’s spokeswoman tells me that Taitz’s account of her conversation with West’s chief of staff is "absolutely false." The spokeswoman also points to West’s statement to Birthers that they should focus on Obama’s policies rather than his citizenship status.

Here’s a link to Salon.com articles on the birthers.

Birtherverse meets the New World Order

The “Birtherverse” is a concept I sometimes use to talk about what the world would be like if the birthers were right. The Birtherverse has a very different set of laws that govern it and what I would call critical thinking is turned on its head. One of my articles on this theme: The Bizarro Wikipedia.

Long before there was a Birtherverse, there was another long-running alternate view of reality, where every major event in the world is manipulated by powerful international plotters, often thought to be Jewish bankers (or maybe reptoid aliens)1. Nowadays this alternative power center is called the New World Order.

The only new thing here is the prominence of the topic in my own thinking. It was inevitable that a conspiracy theory about the powers behind the governments of the world would include one of the most powerful persons in the world, the President of the United States. Certainly the Bushes and the Clintons have been prominent parts of conspiracy theories and it’s not credible that Barack Obama would get left out.

Classic conspiracy theories rely more on making spurious connections between unconnected events rather than factoids2. However, the two have come together. One early example was Orly Taitz, birther attorney and activist who held the view that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) was preparing concentration camps to hold the birthers – something right out of the New World Order, UN World Government, black helicopter genre. More recently we see Chris Strunk blending Vatican New World Order theories into his lawsuit about determining presidential eligibility.

I started this blog because I saw many people believing demonstrably false nonsense – things like “a certification is not a certificate.” I care about misinformation parading as truth and I feel motivated to debunk it. However, there are other conspiracy theories that I find so totally incredible (Nazi UFO space aliens from the South Pole) that I am not motivated to debunk them. I am however a little interested in them and this is after a blog where I write about what interests me.

1There is actually a hybrid between the alien overlord theory and the International Jewish Conspiracy. Some Christian Identity preachers say that there are two races in the world, one descended from Adam and one descended from the Serpent in Garden of Eden. These latter are snake-like reptoids casually indistinguishable from humans, and are associated with some modern Jews.

2A factoid is something that appears to be a fact, but isn’t.

Information explosion

While I never, for one moment, believed the Esquire satire about Joseph Farah recalling and pulping all the copies of Where’s the Birth Certificate, sometimes I find it hard to figure out whether some of the more far-out stories about Barack Obama are serious or not.

Case in point is Sept. 16 article titled: Photographic Evidence that Barack Obama is a Human/Reptilian Hybrid, Part 1. Some of the same concepts that explain how artifacts were introduced in Obama birth certificates by enlarging photos beyond the point of actual information in the image, are seen in this article by Ken Adachi at the “Educate Yourself” web site. After taking an original black and white image, and then adding color to it, Adachi says:

I can only speculate why these etheric images show up when examing [sic] enlargements of certain photos of human/reptilian hybrids such as Bush or Obama, but my guess is that their conduct carries etheric "baggage" which rides along in the aura of the victimizer.

Adachi’s article links to an article by Don Nicoloff [Adachi’s link to Nicoloff is bad] and promises “explosive” material to come from Nicoloff. Nicoloff says:

To fool the people into thinking that candidates for high public office are just ordinary Americans, their genealogy is obfuscated, the immense wealth backing them is not mentioned and the political power behind them is understated.

So once again, conspiracy theories about Barack Obama have taken on classical conspiracies of the New World Order and the lizard people: Nothing is as it seems –everything is being manipulated by THEM.

At this point, I have to decide whether to go down this road. Originally, despite this blog’s title, it was always focused on Obama eligibility arguments. I’ve been reading about the classic conspiracy theories for insight on the birthers, but the classic theories have absorbed Obama into their world view.

It sounds like I need to mow some grass.
