FBI Special Agent Arpaio?

According to Jerome Corsi writing in WorldNetDaily:

“I have no intention of resigning,” said Arpaio, who is running for his sixth term as sheriff of Maricopa County. “They forget I have a four-decades long career in federal law enforcement that includes having been a special agent for the FBI and having worked for the Drug Enforcement Agency in the United States, as well as in Argentina, Turkey and Mexico.”

Arpaio was never a “special agent for the FBI” although he was a special agent for the Federal Bureau of Narcotics. So was this Jerome Corsi’s mistake, substituting FBI or FBN, or Sheriff Joe turning fantasy into fact. Arpaio wrote in his 2008 book Joe’s Law (p 132):

Since I was a boy, I had longed to join the FBI and be a real G-man.

Once again Arpaio plays the birthers, the media – everyone, in fact – like a cheap violin.

I fear you are too kind in calling it a mistake.

If it actually came from Arpaio (doubtful in my opinion) it tells us too much about the man’s current state of mind.

If Corsi made it up then it tells us that he (and WND) will stop at nothing to churn this “story” to further his (and their) own ends.

And so what, Joe? Your career is not exculpatory.

There have been Priests who spent a decade in Seminary, devoted their whole lives to the Church, served their flocks with dedication and compassion, and turned out to be pedophiles.

They don’t get a pass. Why should you?

He, Corsi or Apario, could have easily said four decades with the DEA since his the prior agency was merged into the DEA. That would have simply been a matter of semantics. I wonder why it needed expanding. Was being a FBN DEA agent a lesser role?

Given the time frame it’s hard to tell which agency Arpaio worked for. The DEA wasn’t established until the mid-70’s or so and before that it was the BNDD (Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs) and before that, as I reall there were several small agencies.

Bottom line though is that he never worked for the FBI.

True, however, my point was that, since the role was probably essentially the same, just different agency names, using just DEA would be fine, to me. It might be preferable if space were an issue, I suppose. In either case, as you mention, the DEA and all of its predecessors are not the FBI, nor have the ever been the FBI.

Wow, that Butterdezillion over at freerepublic.com sure knows what she’s talking about. 🙂

“Their own media heads, who told them their careers would be over if they or anybody on their shows discussed the eligibility issue – and the strong implication was that they and their loved ones’ lives would also be questionable.

The media heads said that Obama’s people had threatened to annihilate them through FCC/FEC harassment after the election if anybody reported on this. Doug Hagman has spoken with the eyewitnesses (as has Mike Zullo of the posse) and says he has traced the threats directly to George Soros, David Axelrod, and Rahm Emanuel.

The witnesses are scared stiff. At least one has fled the country out of fear.”

These tactics very closely match those claimed by the producer of “We Will Not Be Silenced” and at least one other Hillary supporter – who say that Bill and Hillary had planned to come out with the story of Obama’s eligibility but changed their minds after the good friend who was going to present a petition at the Dem Convention was killed shortly after agreeing to do so, and then the alternate presenter died suddenly of an anyeurism within a couple days of agreeing to do so.

There’s a lot more that could be said. I need to get back to work but if nobody else gives the details or links before I get back I can add more. Let me know.?

And one brave soul responds to Butterdezillion:
“All of them huh? All the media people threatened into silence? All the broadcast media, the radio talk show hosts, the cable networks including Fox, etc? Do you realize how utterly insane you sound when you say nutty things like this? I mean, you sound precisely like the classic demented, paranoid conspiracy theorist. Were all the conservative legal foundations threatened into silence? Were all significant influential conservative leaders threatened into silence? Who is carrying out all these threats?

So on top of the birther conspiracies, there is a giant death threat operation going on to silence….the entire media. You are building even nuttier conspiracies on top of your original conspiracy theory. You sound absolutely crazy.”

Libel case against Obama’s ‘gay’ accuser tossed
Larry Sinclair claimed president’s campaign paid to rig polygraph

Sinclair told WND in a telephone interview that he stands by the claims challenged in the suit.

“All the charges I made are true,” he said.

He also continues to stand by his primary charge against Obama.

“I know from personal experience that Obama lied when he said he had given up drugs in college, and I can attest in detail to the fact Obama engages in homosexual sex,” Sinclair said.

In addition, Sinclair has charged that the murder of Donald Young – the homosexual choirmaster at Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago – was an attempt to hide a sexual relationship between Young and Obama. Young was murdered shortly before the 2008 Iowa Caucus.

    Dave B.:
So exactly what year did Arpaio retire from the DEA?

    From Wiki:

Arpaio was born Joseph M. Arpaio in Springfield, Massachusetts on June 14, 1932, to Italian parents both from Lacedonia, Italy.[11] Arpaio’s mother died while giving birth to him, and Arpaio was raised by his father, a grocery store owner. Arpaio completed high school and worked in his father’s business until age 18 when he enlisted in the United States Army.[12] Arpaio served in the Army from 1950 to 1954 in the Medical Detachment Division and was stationed in France for part of the time as a military policeman.[13]

Following his discharge in 1954, Arpaio moved to Washington, D.C. and became a police officer, moving in 1957 to Las Vegas, Nevada. He served as a police officer in Las Vegas for six months before being appointed as a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, which later became part of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).[14] During his 25-year tenure with the DEA, he was stationed in Argentina, Turkey and Mexico, and advanced through the ranks to the position of head of the DEA’s Arizona branch.[15]

In 1992, Arpaio successfully campaigned for the office of Maricopa County Sheriff. The voters of Maricopa County re-elected him in 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008.[16]

Arpaio married his wife Ava in 1958. Together, they have two children and four grandchildren.[17] They currently reside in Fountain Hills, Arizona.[18]

Keith, that doesn’t answer my question. I’ve already looked at wikipedia, and a whole lot of other materials. I’ve seen a number of conflicting accounts, and I don’t care to make presumptions from such tenuous bases. I still haven’t found an explicit statement of what year Arpaio retired from the DEA.

    Dave,

You might want to check the archives of the Arizona Republic. They’ve done a number of profiles of Arpaio over the years. I have a recollection that he joined the Bureau of Narcotics in about 1958 and retired in 1982 (25 years) and that’s when he and his wife moved to Phoenix. They had (and may still have) a travel agency he got interested in the sheriff’s office in the late 90’s, finally running and winning in 92.

Thanks, Carl. I’d undertaken a few searches there, and going through all the articles on Arpaio was looking a lot like cleaning the Augean stables. I think I even glanced through that particular article after my eyes had glazed over.
I’ve been seeing that 25 years stretched into 32 years of federal law enforcement experience, which has somehow magically turned into 4 decades now. But nobody ever said Joe was good with numbers.
I did come across that charming little travel agency phase of his life, which is covered in this story:
    http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2009/09/03/20090903spacetravel-ON.html
which seems somehow appropriate, now that he claims “nobody’s higher than me”.

One of the interesting things about this film is that it was created by Joel Gilbert. I know Gilbert from his interest in the music of Bob Dylan. Gilbert wrote a book on Dylan’s early acoustic style, he leads a Bob Dylan tribute band, and has made several documentaries about Dylan. What I didn’t know is that Gilbert’s production company, Highway 61 Entertainment, also does documentaries about the threat of Islam. My guess is that Gilbert, like Orly Taitz, hates Obama because he believes Obama

Good ole Corsi says it’s a compelling case, not proof. Ever the weasel. Another low is the photo lineup and insistence that there is a strike physical resemblance between Obama and Davis …. curiously, they don’t include a photo of his Mom … the only one Obama resembles.

“See? This black guy looks like that black guy, not the other black guy? Only a racist would think they all look the same.”

JPotter, if his father is Frank Marshall Davis, wouldn’t that make WND also admit that Obama is actually eligible to be the President, as Frank Marshall Davis was a U.S. citizen, and so was Stanley Ann Dunham?

So, are we actually going to see WND go: “We were wrong. Obama is eligible to be President.”

Obama is eligible to be President.”

Shockingly, this point is obvious … except to the readers of WND, apparently. It came up on Amazon yesterday…. being lazy I will quote myself there:

You mean, you don’t think Dunham and Davis would have taken a random trip to Kenya in an effort to conceal their affair, and to give birth in secret? “Of course it was the guy from Kenya, Dad! Why else would I go to friggin’ Kenya?”

    Heh.

Of course Corsi doesn’t care. Throw all the spaghetti at the wall, keep the readers thoroughly riled and confused, and create multiple, redundant, overlapping conspiracy smears, so no matter what how badly one of them fails, there’s always another lily pad to hop to. Never put all the eggs in one basket. Diversify!

No matter who the paretns were, in WND-land, Obama is always from Kenya. If he was a test-tube baby, the tube was in Kenya. Genetically engineered from scratch in a lab–wait for it–in Kenya.

I expect there will be a follow-up from Corsi, explaining that Stanley Dunham, was “put away”, to give birth to her unholy child in secret. A nice young man from Kenya offered to shack her up with the fam in his homeland until ‘the time came’. Having no more economical option (*cough, cough*), the Dunhams took him up on it.
