The Fogbow Meetup 2014

I am in Philadelphia for the Fogbow Meetup. Anti-birthers and their spouses have been filtering in from across the country. I am very pleased to finally meet some folks face-to-face. Generally, I’m not going to talk about who’s here for privacy reasons (feel free to announce yourself). Foggy and Roxy7655 are here.

I don’t get on the Fogbow forum much, what with all the time I spend here and other places, and it’s good to catch up. One thing that I noticed is that there are more lawyers among the anti-birthers than I realized. It’s really a very sophisticated crowd with some rich personal narratives. It’s also enriching for me, who lived my entire life in the South, to hobnob with folks from other parts of the country.

It seems that that the order of conversation is: finding out who the person you are talking to is, briefly how crazy the birthers are, and then something totally different. A group of us went to see the Barnes Art Collection and I have now exceeded my life quota for Renoirs.

I had hoped to attend, but opted for OAS instead 🙂

  2. So breakfast at Denny’s, and someone suggested a grand slam jury.

  3. Yoda says:

I will be meeting up with you guys for dinner. Mrs. Yoda is iffy.

  4. Yoda says:

If you want a fun, inexpensive place for lunch, I suggest Nifty Fifty’s. it is about ten mins from the hotel. 50’s style diner.

  5. Rickey says:

It sounds like fun. Philly is only a three-hour drive for me, but I’m flying to Florida next Saturday and am busy getting ready for that trip.

Dennys is awesome! You can have anything substituted for more bacon.

The denizens at Birther Report really miss you, Doc. C.

Sounds nice, Doc. I am not surprised, since I’ve seen such an interesting group of people attracted to your website alone. I’ve lived most of my life in the North, and have been enriched by your contributions from “the South.” Enjoy and be safe.

Sounds like you had more show up than at the American Spring.

Here is Crazy Uncle Gabe’s take on the failure of the American Spring.

Walmart couldn’t let ALL its greeters have the day off.

Couldn’t go because I had to renew my Viagra prescription

Too busy feeding and watering Cliven Bundy cows

I was going to make a sign last Sunday but Hobby Lobby was closed.

Pending hate crime trial precludes travel outside the state.

Hold on, I have to listen to FOX to find out how it’s Obama’s fault.

Drone hustling, shape-shifting Socialist/Kenyan dictators don’t scare me…but that clammy drizzle was too much!

Had to drive by myself. Ran out of Jack Daniels on the Interstate and passed out on the shoulder

  11. We won’t be having a live feed of Foggy’s “State of the birther” address, but I think a video will be surreptitiously recorded. The rumors about the “Girls of The Fogbow” calendar are not true.

If that doesn’t satisfy you, try the *Citizens* Grand Jury Slam. It’s not actually on the menu, but if you order it in an authoritative voice, who knows, you might get lucky.

  13. Slartibartfast says:

We learned a big secret at dinner tonight…

Realist can sing! (He’s good too also)

  14. Lupin says:

Any Obot visiting the South of France is more than welcome to contact me. Drinks on me!

Birthers too. We have formidable dungeons.

  15. The European says:

Lupin, je suis un homme pauvre – mais coeur fidèle ! Je viens pour l’apéro !

  16. Keith says:

I have a glass of wine (or a beer) for any Obots that make it to Melbourne too. Just let me know BEFORE you hit the ground.

  17. bovril says:

OK, OK I promise to be a better Obot if possible next time……I don’t think I’ll be back out Melbourne way for the rest of the year….unless it changes….again.

  18. Andrew Vrba, PmG says:

But that requires entering a country where half the wildlife wants you dead! 😉

I was going to contact you somehow asking that very question as I hope to be in France in August touring round in le camping-car.

Doc, could you somehow play the contact maker ?

I agree that you give my email to lupin and arthurwankspittle !

    Thanx

  21. ArthurWankspittle says:

Just realised – you can pm me at the Fogbow if you are a member there.

    I quit a long time ago ….

  23. Dave B. says:

The word “formidable” is never so formidable as when enunciated by a Frenchman.

  24. The meetup is over, and a good time was had by all. The only plans that were made was a tentative location for a future meetup–the birthers can relax.

Foggy’s address was recorded and it will be on YouTube sometime soon. I have to get home and edit out the microphone checks. I think it was just 5 minutes or so.

Yesterday at Denny’s I had the “Red, White and Blueberry french toast” and this morning I had the All American [citizen grand jury] slam breakfast. We had 20 for breakfast.

In honor of OAS, you can round up to the nearest million, just this once.

I was in Melbourne ten years ago. I have a friend who lives in Mornington, but he thinks that I’m his mate!

I’ll bet that breakfast had some pretty sweet layers and maybe even a smiley face.

One of my professional emails is info at black coat press dot com all in one word in small; anyone planning to be in the Carcassonne area should definitely email me. We’ll get together for drinks or lunch and I can offer advice on the general area and/or arrange moderately priced accommodation.

We use to have Daily Kos/European Tribune meet-ups in Carcassonne, but somehow fell out of arranging them when we started having to take care of our elderly parents.

  29. The European says:

    /not completely offtopic

Someone reported that realist sings well. I recall that he loves some blues. And the title fits the Birdboy – “Bye Bye Bird”. So – directly from Sweden – Sonny Boy Williamson:

  30. realist says:

I enjoyed the meetup… my fourth.

I had both the Birther Slam and the Grand Jury Slam. While they were both good, I prefer the former.

And Ms. Daisy can play the spoons!

  32. Andrew Vrba, PmG says:

You know, I had the Birther Slam once. The waitress kept telling me “Sir! It’s coming, any minute now, I promise! It’s the most universe shattering breakfast ever! Then she kept asking me to tip her in advance.” I took hours, and once I got it, it was nothing like it was described to be. Wholly underwhelming.

  33. Bonsall Obot says:

The Birther Slam is made of layers of racism.

    Layers? Must be a forgery.
