Klan leader endorses Trump for president

BuzzFeed reports that the New York Daily News reports that David Duke, former imperial wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, endorsed Donald Trump for president. The theme of both articles is that Donald Trump’s rhetoric emboldens white supremacist groups and inflames hate speech on the Internet. The birth certificate is mentioned.

People who know me would expect that I come down somewhere between “yes” and “no.” How about you?

Are Birther “Reporters” Professional & Accurate?

Opinion by Brian Reilly

I find it fascinating that people like Sharon Rondeau, Mark Gillar, Mike Volin and Carl Gallups continue to report their news stories about Arpaio and Zullo according to what they’ve been told, or what they have read from other sources, not what they have actually witnessed. The most recent case in point, is the December 18, 2015 Tea Party Power Hour radio show with Mark Gillar interviewing Sharon Rondeau of the Post & Email internet newspaper. (1) None of the information Rondeau reported was her own eye witness account of court room events in the Melendres v. Arpaio contempt of court hearings.

While I seldom pay much attention to these people, I did listen to this particular show. I’ve attempted to publish my thoughts at Birther Report without successfully breaking their censorship barrier. I’ve attempted to pass on accurate information to the above mentioned people, also with no apparent success. I was a witness to the contempt of court hearings and I personally witnessed volunteer posse member Mike Zullo claim his Fifth Amendment privilege against self-incrimination 264 times during his testimony on the 10th and on the 12th of November. I also witnessed Mike Zullo’s reported emotional meltdown during his testimony on the 12th.

What I witnessed in court was shocking. Mike Zullo had been very subdued and professional while on the stand on the 10th, until he decided to stop claiming the Fifth on the 12th. Suddenly, he became loud, demeaning and angry. He became so loud that the court public address speakers began to distort and pop while he yelled into the microphone. He became so emotional that I thought he was on the verge of tears as his voice cracked. It was an amazing and noteworthy outburst. It was also very unprofessional. I’m very familiar with Zullo’s rapid mood swings.

During the break, I was standing in the hall outside the courtroom, speaking with former MCSO Chief Deputy Brian Sands. We were trying to assess what we had just witnessed. We both agreed that Zullo looked like he had cracked under pressure. Suddenly, Zullo burst through the courtroom double doors, and quickly walked over to me, reaching out his right hand, he grabbed my left hand and he said, “It’s alright, Bro!” He was giddy, and highly animated. Both Sands and I questioned what we had just experienced. Zullo turned to his right and then he began to pace up and down the hall. Absolutely nobody approached Zullo out in the hall. He was alone. Not even his wife, Alicia came to court to support Zullo.

Sharon Rondeau, and other Birthers have been highly and unjustly critical of the Phoenix media and the reporting done by professional journalists who have attended the Melendres v. Arpaio contempt of court hearings.

Reporter, Megan Cassidy was in attendance and reported: (2)

“…Zullo became unhinged.” “With a flushed face and, at times, wavering voice, Zullo unleashed a diatribe…”

Reporter Joe Dana was in attendance and reported: (3)

“A key operative [Zullo] for Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s volunteer posse surprised the court Thursday, aggressively and loudly answering questions…”

“Arpaio posse leader [Zullo] erupts under oath” “Your honor, at some point I need to stop answering questions… It’s like I don’t know what I’m doing.”

Reporter Stephen Lemons was in attendance and reported: (4)

“Posse honcho Mike Zullo, giddy after spilling his guts on the stand.”

“Zullo continued to respond, getting louder and more animated with each gentle query by Young.”

“What is this, a star chamber?” he [Zullo] blurted out. “Don’t my rights matter?”

“I [Zullo] don’t know what I’m doing,”

“This was a brain-damaged dance I did with this guy,” Zullo said of Montgomery.

Reporter Jude Joffe-Block was in attendance and reported: (5)

“Mike Zullo, provided a dramatic conclusion to the hearing with his testimony.”

I witnessed the same events in court along with the Phoenix reporters mentioned above. Their reporting was accurate and professional and mirrored the events that I witnessed in court on the 10thand 12th of November. And for the record, Sharon Rondeau, Mark Gillar, Mike Volin and Carl Gallups were not in attendance in court on November 12th, to witness these events unfold. But despite this handicap, they continued to spin their tales of speculation to sway the opinions of the Birther faithful.

How did Mark Gillar and Sharon Rondeau attempt to sway Birther opinion on the Tea Party Power Hour? The following was transcribed from the program1: (1)

Mark Gillar:

“I know how bad the reporting is in the Phoenix area…”

Sharon Rondeau:

“Well, that is uh, very well said. And, I have found that that is absolutely true. And I’ve only recently found this I mean let’s say in the last year since I have been following this case. It is just astounding.

Ah, one of them [Megan Cassidy] described Mike Zullo’s November 12th testimony as unhinged. She used the word unhinged, she said, that’s when he became unhinged. As a journalist, you don’t use words like that, that’s an opinion, uhm, it sways public opinion. And, all of them seem to do that. To use the word such as unhinged or uhm, some of them they use different terms, like that he had an outburst, or, but they were, they were describing things, without really getting into the substance of what Mike Zullo said.

So, in other words, they put out headlines, they used words to sway public opinion, and I was very, very surprised to find out how bad the reporters are there. Phoenix is a big city, and Maricopa County has hundreds of thousands of people, maybe millions of people, I’m not even sure how many, it’s a very big jurisdictional area I know and the Sheriff’s department I think is the third largest in the country. I’ll have to check it. It’s second or third. It’s quite big. So you would think that they would have the best reporters but they do not. So, to basically confirm what you have said, I have found this out recently.”

Sharon Rondeau then went on to say: After Zullo’s November 12th testimony, “Nobody interviewed him… Nobody interviewed him. Nobody wanted to interview him… Nobody flocked to Zullo.” Ms. Rondeau never explained why she or the other Birther news outlets have never done a recorded interview with Mike Zullo after he gave his testimony. (I’m told by Mike Volin that Mike Zullo, after his court testimony, refused to do an on air interview with Volin, Gallups and Rondeau.)

If Ms. Rondeau would have been in court to witness Mike Zullo’s peculiar behavior, she would be in a better position to understand why “nobody flocked to Zullo.” His unprofessional testimony was simply not believable. Ms. Rondeau may wish to review the definition and the synonyms for the word “unhinged.” (6)

Ms. Rondeau stated in her interview with Mr. Gillar that, “The transcript cannot be the full story. There has to be more to this.” I very much agree. If Ms. Rondeau would have attended the court proceedings along with the Phoenix reporters, she would have witnessed the complete story. Mike Zullo appeared unhinged and his testimony was simply not believable.

And finally, because I attended the hearings, I witnessed firsthand, inaccuracies in Mr. Zullo’s testimony to the court, given while under oath. My expectation is that criminal referrals will be forthcoming for Sheriff Arpaio and others. Judge Snow will not allow his court to be disrespected or obstructed.

Are Birther reporters professional and accurate? Not according to my experience.

TheRepository

Here’s anther of the old draft Obama Conspiracy Theories articles that I’m adding to the “Lost Articles” series. In this essay, I attempted to evaluate the credentials of Douglas Vogt, someone who claimed to be an expert capable of recognizing a fake scanned PDF document. Vogt later filed a lawsuit in Washington State, and even named me as a participant in his alleged forgery conspiracy. So here’s the article:

In a recent press release, Douglas Vogt, president of Archive Index Systems, a wholesale dealer of scanning hardware and software (AKA wholesalescanners.com), puts forth a claim that he is an expert in scanning and scanning software. He says Obama’s long form is a fake. (See my article: “Expert” claims: birth certificate fake.)

Digging in to his claimed credentials from 2011 we find:

I have a unique background for analyzing this document. I owned a typesetting company for 11 years so I know type and form design very well. I currently own Archive Index Systems since 1993,which sells all types of document scanners worldwide and also developed document imaging software (TheRepository). I know how scanners work.

Here the subject of the sentence is a little ambiguous; did Vogt develop “TheRepository” or did his company develop the software? This is an important point because an imaging software developer is expected to know more about how it works under the covers than a company executive.

The first curious thing I came across in trying to resolve this question was a broken hyperlink. On the home page of Archive Index Systems, there is a list of products and on the bottom right a section on software and a link to TheRepository; the link is “http://www.the-repository.net/” an off-site link. (The working link is: http://www.archiveindex.com/the_repository.html.)

So I conclude that at some time in the past “TheRepository” was described on a web site other than Archive Index Systems, and that site is no longer there. I tried to run the demo from http://www.archiveindex.com/repository/demo.html, but again, it linked to the dead domain. The links to the user manuals were not working, even though they pointed to the archiveindex site.

As of December 2015, all of the links above have been removed from the Archive Index web site.

I searched the Internet for other references to that site, and I came up with one on a Linux forum from 2003 with comments by someone named “Doug” which I will assume is Doug Vogt. He wrote:

Don’t bother we already have a Linux document imaging program that does everything you would need and its cheap. Go to http://www.the-repository.net

Nothing really technical came out of that discussion.

So, it appears that there is no available evidence one way or another that Doug Vogt has any software expertise, or that he has any special knowledge of the PDF files created by scanners beyond someone in the general population. It further appears that whatever software his company developed is no longer in their product line. Even if he did develop software, that doesn’t imply any special knowledge of the internal format of PDF documents. I developed software using the Adobe API to created PDF files that was used in vital records, but I never had to get involved with the internal format of PDF files–the Adobe tools took care of all that.

Deja vu

I was reading comments over at Birther Report, and I saw this one from “birtherprincess” (Miki Booth). She said:

One of the reasons I am a confidante of the sheriff and Mike is that anything told me in confidence stays that way. I can tell you that there WILL be a presser. At this point they are very close to having what they need for the presser. Whether the press here will carry it is anyone’s guess, right? Common sense should tell anyone that the breadth and scope of the fraud can only be CIA and who is the muzzle head of the CIA? Bingo! We’re screwed but were not dead yet.

That comment was “8 hours ago” at 10:20 PM, December 21, 2015. In my 2014 retrospective article, “That was the year that wasn’t: 2014 a retrospective” I wrote:

Great expectations of some great release of information from the Cold Case Posse to occur in March of 2014 flew around the birthersphere, but the so-called “March reveal” never happened. In the wake of that disappointment, Posse video guy Mark Gillar Tweeted in April: “Between now and the midterms, shocking revelations will be brought forward by Sheriff Joe.” In June, pop singer, birther activist and Cold Case Posse confidant Pat Boone pinned the time frame down even closer when he went on the record saying to Alan Colmes that the evidence that Obama’s birth certificate, the smoking gun, would be released by September. In July, Zullo spokesperson Carl Gallups said: “Been talking to Mike Zullo. Both the birth certificate and criminal investigations are still ongoing. Sheriff Arpaio is getting close to holding the press conference.” Expectations ran high for something before the November elections. Nothing happened.

I’ve always been fascinated by Zullo insiders, like Gillar, and Boone and Gallups—and now Miki Booth. They feel important because they are insiders, but it appears that they were selected because they can’t keep their mouths shut, for example Miki Booth saying she keeps confidences, in the same comment that she does everything but run up the flag pole confirmation that Zullo is still buying Dennis Montgomery’s unproven contention that former CIA director Brennan is responsible for Obama’s birth certificate that appears on the White House web site. Booth, I guess, is an ultimate insider since she had dinner with Zullo and his wife.

This past Wednesday I met with Sheriff Joe and was with him in the VIP Lounge of the Mesa Airport hanger up to the minute he was called to the podium to speak and open the Donald Trump rally. As you know he confirmed that the bc investigation is ongoing and Trump has that in common with him. That evening I had dinner with Mike Zullo and his wife at the home of my hosts Robert and Kathy Moore. We were at the rally from 7 in the morning as volunteers and worked side by side with secret service and the Mesa police. I have the photos to prove all of this.

Who is Kweli Shuhubia?

The following article was written probably some time around the end of 2012. For some unknown reason, it wasn’t published. It’s possible that it wasn’t published because Loren Collins made observations in the same area that I did, and did a better job of it. In any case, I add the following to the Lost Articles collection.

Since this article was published yesterday a commenter pointed out that there is an actual person named Kweli Shuhubia in Kenya who is an associate of Ron McRae. Here is a photo of McRae in Kenya with another Kenyan associate, Brother Daniel:

McRae in his own affidavit calls the him the Reverend Kweli Shuhudia (note the difference in spelling), and explains, “actual name temporarily withheld to protect his life. No less than Jerome Corsi himself has said at WND that “Kweli Shuhubia” is a pseudonym:

A second affidavit was sworn by Kenyan Anabaptist minister Rev. Kweli Shuhubia, a pseudonym chosen to protect his safety.

Loren pointed out in his comment at The Free Republic in 2010 that “nowhere does the ‘affidavit’ [Shuhubia’s] mention that the affiant’s name is a pseudonym.” That leaves us in a quandary as to whether it is a pseudonym or an eponym or just fouled up. So I may re-frame my titular question as: “Who is the author of Kweli Shuhubia’s affidavit”? And with that amendment, I resume the old article…

The Second Amended Complaint in the case of Berg v. Obama et al (2008) contained the curious affidavit of one, Kweli Shuhubia. The affidavit claims that Shuhubia is an African minister who was present during a transatlantic phone call between then presidential candidate Barack Obama’s step grandmother and American Anabaptist bishop and street preacher, Ron McRae.

The affidavit contains a transcript of the first part of a taped interview from the conversation, the statement that it is “common knowledge” in Kenya that Barack Obama, Jr. was born there, and that Shuhubia spoke with a “regional registrar” in Mombosa (sic) who confirmed that Obama’s birth was registered in Kenya and that this was all “top secret.”

It was later said that the name was a pseudonym, assumed out of fears for the personal safety of the writer of the affidavit. The writer of the affidavit writes as though he was the person identified as “Brother Tom” on the tape recording. (The recording and a transcript are linked here.)

So if indeed “Kweli Shuhubia” is not the writer of the transcript, what is the real name? Here I advance the theory that the writer is none other than Ron McRae himself.

The affidavit starts off:

I, Kweli Shuhubia am over the age of eighteen (18) and not a party to the within action.

This is the identical form of Ron McRae’s affidavit. This means that at least the boiler plate introduction to the affidavit was likely prepared by the same person. [Since this article was originally written, Loren Collins published a comparison of the affidavits of McRae and Shuhubia noting other extensive verbatim similarity in places.]

Does the writer of the affidavit leave any telltale hints to show that he was present in the room with Sarah Obama during the phone conversation? I find none. In fact, the transcript is marked in several places “unintelligible” which doesn’t make sense if written by someone who was on the African end. The affidavit says: “Ms. Obama’s home was flooded with people who were celebrating Senator Obama’s success story.” Yet of this flood of people, none are named, not even Sarah Obama’s “grandson,” mentioned in the affidavit. The lack of specifics is suspicious.

Later the affidavit says:

I interviewed personnel at the hospital in which Senator Obama was born in Kenya. I then had meetings with the Provincial Civil Registrar. I learned there were records of Ann Dunham giving birth to Barack Hussein Obama, III in Mombosa [sic], Kenya on August 4, 1961. I spoke directly with an Official, the Principal Registrar, who openly confirmed the birthing records of Senator Barack H. Obama, Jr. and his mother were present, however, the file on Barack H. Obama, Jr. was classified and profiled. The Official explained Barack Hussein Obama, Jr. birth in Kenya is top secret.

The officials are identified by title: “Provincial Civil Registrar” and “Principal Registrar,” but not by name. Someone who had actually met with these people would know the name, and since the titles are specific to an individual, withholding the name could not be to protect them. It may be that the names (which are easily obtained on the Internet) were withheld to make it more difficult to contact them to check out the story. The other problem with this account is that the Principal Registrar oversees documents in Nairobi, not Mombssa. Shuhubia cannot even spell the name of the city Mombasa!

Does it strike anyone else as odd that the official “openly confirmed” what was “top secret”?

This brings us to another interesting point. Under Kenyan law, the Principal Registrar prepares an alphabetic index of all the births in the country (and has been doing so since — drum roll — 1961). The index is open to the public.

Finally, the affidavit concludes: “I declare under the penalty of perjury of the laws of the United States, that the foregoing is true and correct.” This is rather an odd thing to say by someone  who is not under the jurisdiction of the United States. Further, there is no official stamp or notary on the document. Indeed, what Berg submitted to the court isn’t signed at all that I can tell; it looks like the signature was (rather obviously) pasted into the document.

Natural born citizen drops out of the race

Graham is out

South Carolina is once again in the presidential primary news. With its “first in the South” presidential preference primary just 2 months away, South Carolina’s Senator Lindsey Graham has dropped out of the race. Graham, from Central, South Carolina (where I used to live) was one of the rare uncontestable natural born citizens in the Republican race.

Gowdy is cornered

Meanwhile my esteemed1 Congressman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) is supporting Marco Rubio. Gowdy got cornered by one of those new Rubio birthers at an event in Spartanburg, South Carolina, who pressed the point that, according to him, a natural born citizen must have parents born in the US. Gowdy responded “it depends on what you mean” by natural born citizen. This video is played as admission by Gowdy that Rubio and Cruz are not eligible. I would not characterize it that way.

Indeed, Gowdy wrote in a letter to me:

Like you, I believe the Constitution must be our nation’s guiding document, including its provisions specifying the requirements that must be met for an individual to hold the office of President. President Obama was qualified to run for this office by the Federal Election Commission, and courts have dismissed all lawsuits challenging his status as a natural born citizen of the United States. As such, I believe President Obama to be the legitimately elected leader of our nation.

Karma is a bitch

I don’t want to make too much of the irony, but folks in the Republican party who tolerated the birthers no find it coming around to bite them. Lindsey Graham is a another notable exception, having said that the Obama birthers were “crazy” and writing to a constituent:

Every child born in the United States is a natural-born United States citizen except for the children of diplomats.

1I use the word “esteemed” sometimes sincerely and sometimes sarcastically.
