Breaking news: Dr. Conspiracy named as birth certificate forgery conspirator

Foggy just called to tell me that I have been named by Douglas Vogt as part of the Obama birth certificate forgery ring. What a hoot!

I don’t know nothin’ ’bout forgin’ no birth certificates!

— Dr. Conspiracy

The birther reporter at Newsblaze, Randy Foreman, according to Birther Report, obtained a copy of Douglas Vogt’s previous sealed affidavit most recently filed with the Supreme Court not under seal, and it names the forgers of Obama’s birth certificate. The images appear to have come from the court document itself. The affidavit names as forgers:

  • Miki Booth (not mentioned in the Birther Report article)
  • Johanna Ah’Nee
  • Kevin Davidson (me)
  • Loretta Fuddy
  • Alvin Onaka

I guess it’s natural that someone like Vogt with no forensic document examination experience would name forgers with no forgery experience.

Johanna Ah’Nee is a person born the same month as Barack Obama, who (foolishly, in my opinion) provided copies of her birth certificate through birther Miki Booth (who also had a son born in Hawaii and published a certificate) to Orly Taitz and Jerome Corsi. Corsi and Taitz both published copies in various stages of redaction, proving among other things that Mike Zullo lied about penciled race codes on Obama’s certificate, and that birthers in general were wrong about how certificates were numbered in Hawaii in 1961. Rather than make his theories fit the evidence, Vogt made the evidence fit his theories by declaring most of the August 1961 Hawaiian birth certificates including that of Booth and Ah’Nee to be forgeries. Vogt, unable to keep it in his pants under his hat, gave enough clues on birther talk radio, that it became obvious that Ah’Nee was his forger.

Both Fuddy (former Director of Health for the Hawaii Department of Health) and Onaka (Registrar of Vital records for the Hawaii Department of Health) were natural candidates for Vogt’s fantasies, since they verified and certified Obama’s own certificate.

I got tagged as the one who “did the research,” which is pretty silly when you think about it, since Dr. Onaka knows a thousand times more about a Hawaiian birth certificate than I do, since he has them all at his fingertips. I know something about birth certificates, having worked in the field almost all of my professional career, but I don’t have specialized knowledge about certificates in Hawaii, and could provide no help to any putative forgers of one. Absurd as it is, I predicted being named John Doe #8 last October, writing:

I wondered whether or not I could be one of the John Does in the complaint, and the best fit I could come up with is John Doe #8…

Vogt makes the claim that I agree with his certificate numbering scheme in one of my articles, where I said:

To forge Obama’s birth certificate, it would be necessary to create a fake certificate in early August of 1961, filled out to look like it came from Kapi’olani Hospital, with a fake signature from Dr. Sinclair (or an authentic one if he were the forger). Once inserted into the work flow at the State Department of Health, the certificate would have been registered, numbered, filed and reported to the newspapers just like certificates for all the rest born that month.

Vogt reads something into that statement that I never intended, that the list of work flow elements were listed in the order performed.

In another flight of fancy, Vogt writes:

After looking at [Dr. Conspiracy’s] articles and other obots (stands for “Obama Robots”) who post comments on his web site, it was obvious to me, that his web site was part of the disinformation program orchestrated by the White House through Jim Johnson a supporter of Obama and former head of Fannie Mae. [footnote to WorldNetDaily]

Predictably, Vogt zeroes in on my 2009 reconstruction of Obama’s long form and can’t figure out why I would have made such a thing. Vogt, usually so very imaginative, couldn’t guess that I was using a graphic format to present the known information about what would be found on the Obama certificate, should it ever be released. Vogt makes a big point that the “06” number in my reconstructed certificate is just like the off-baseline number in real certificates from that month, oblivious to the fact that I was just following the published Nordyke certificate, which I listed as one of my sources in the article. Vogt says that the available Nordyke certificate was too poor in quality for me to have gotten the information that way, but the Nordyke image linked in the article clearly shows the offset. Vogt notes that my 2009 reconstruction was updated in 2010, and wonders why. The answer is that I made a number of incremental improvements in the reconstruction as I learned stuff or decided things. The oldest version is found on the Wayback Machine and the newest version here. The specific changes were:

  1. Increasing the font size of the word “African” in Box 9
  2. Adding “Stanley Ann D. Obama” signature to Box 18a
  3. Changed placement and font size of “Wichita, Kansas” in block 16

imageVogt in the available portions of the affidavit, repeats nonsense previously debunked by me (here and here) and by Frank Arduini. I hesitate to say this, but Douglas Vogt is a pretty dim bulb.

Miki Booth agrees, according to this comment at Birther Report:

doug vogt is a f***ing idiot!! He’s gonna get his ass sued. My friend Johanna had nothing to do with this except to give her birth certificate to me to give to Dr. Corsi and Mike Zullo. vogt was jealous not being privy to the investigation and figured we were hiding something because we wouldn’t share with him.

Security paper and halos

OnakaHaloSo I bought some security paper. It’s nice security paper, but it’s not quite like the Hawaiian certificate paper. That’s no surprise, but if we want to do a good job replicating the White House PDF of the President’s long form birth certificate, we’re going to need to make a good original to work from.

Despite the obviously crude birth certificate that appeared in the Garrett Papit video (now scrubbed), the Cold Case Posse originally claimed to have used real security paper. This is what Mike Zullo said in the Cold Case Posse’s first press conference:

… the President’s birth certificate released by the White House was an electronic document, we literally had the capability to go into that file and turn off the green safety paper background. Anybody that gets documents anywhere realizes that safety paper is supposed to be a source of comfort that it is an official document. We had the ability to turn it off.

We turned if off and we scanned the President’s birth certificate onto a hard copy paper document, a paper, a safety paper document we actually laid his birth certificate on top of.

As always, what Zullo said is misleading. He would lead the listener to think that that he could turn off the safety paper background and leave the rest of the document intact, but of course that’s not true (details below). If one turns off the background layer, much of the form, text and signatures goes away with it.

The halos are an interesting artifact, basically white areas around the text. You can see it here in this example around the word “Mother”.

Detail of block 15 from Obama birth certificate showing blank space around the letters

The halos (actually blank areas) appear all throughout the document, prominent when you look the background layer of the PDF by itself (click for full-sized image). Background layer of Obama birth certificate, showing security paper, signatures and form lines

Of course, birthers say that these blank spaces were places where the information from someone else was cut out to put Obama information in place it when combining certificates. That theory falls apart looking at the background layer without the text at full size. You can read the text by just the halos! So they aren’t the result of removing something else.

But what Zullo said, no matter how much nonsense it was, had a useful hint. Even though turning off the background layer would obscure much of the certificate, there would still be some black text left, and that text, printed onto security paper would make for a good test for halos.

Thanks to a suggestion from a commenter here, I’ve ordered some more security paper that may be closer to the Hawaii design. I have high hopes for a good test document to test halos ANY DAY NOW. 😈

Onaka’s verification wording

imageBlogger Butterdezillion along with Mr. Hendershot have made a big deal about the wording of a series of verifications of the information on Obama’s birth certificate. One commenter here raised the issue succinctly.

Hermitian: The last sentence in SOS Bennett’s request for verification was:

“Additionally, please verify that the attached copy of the Certificate of Live Birth for Mr. Obama is a true and accurate representation of the original record in your files.”

Onaka was unable to verify this as fact. Instead he responded as follows:

“Additionally, I verify that the information in the copy of the Certificate of Live Birth for Mr. Obama that you attached with your request matches the original record in our files.”

Birthers have focused on the wording of these three verifications, trying to find hidden meaning in what was not said, trying to make what was not said contradict what they clearly intended to say, but in a sense, Hermitian is technically correct. Onaka couldn’t verify the photocopy; however, this was because of the law, not because the photocopy isn’t an accurate image copy of the original.  The verifications are worded as they are because of the law governing such verifications:

§338-14.3  Verification in lieu of a certified copy.  (a)  Subject to the requirements of section 338-18, the department of health, upon request, shall furnish to any applicant, in lieu of the issuance of a certified copy, a verification of the existence of a certificate and any other information that the applicant provides to be verified relating to the vital event that pertains to the certificate. Here’s the birth certificate!

One of the dumbest questions asked by birthers is “Where’s the Birth Certificate?” Amid unfounded rumors that candidate Obama’s middle name was “Mohammed,” his campaign released his birth certificate in June of 2008. Perhaps you’ve seen it?

Obama Certification of Live Birth

Birthers have tried to deny this simple document ever since. First, they denied that the document even existed in paper form, and that it didn’t have the seal of the State of Hawaii. Staff from actually took photos of the original paper document, but those were denied too.

Reverse engineering Dr. Onaka

Birther blogger Butterdezillion has a reputation for, how shall I say it, “non-linear thinking.” She’s a pretty good researcher, persistent and I think accurate. The problem with her writing is that the conclusions typically turn out the opposite of what one gets with the usual rules of logic.

The latest example of BZ’ discovery of hidden meaning in plain text is a letter purportedly faxed to every member of Congress in which she says, in part:

Hawaii state registrar Alvin Onaka has publicly certified to AZ SOS Ken Bennett that Barack Obama’s HI birth certificate is legally non-valid and the White House image is a forgery. He also confirmed to KS SOS Kris Kobach that the information contained in the White House image is NOT “identical to” that in the official record.

Cat staring off into spaceI had read that paragraph before without attribution at various web sites, and it frankly made no sense. Now with Butterdezillion’s name attached, the explanation is no longer a mystery. You see, what you don’t say is more important to Butterdezillion than what you do say, and in this case apparently only some special magic formulation can convey Obama’s eligibility, and any failure to use the magic words means the opposite is true. BZ reminds me of the cat in a Kliban cartoon captioned: “Cats see things we don’t.”

What Onaka actually said to Bennett was:

Additionally, I verify that the information in the copy of the Certificate of Live Birth for Mr. Obama that you attached with your request matches the original record in our files.

What Onaka actually said to Kobach was:

  1. The original Certificate of Live Birth for Barack Hussein Obama, II, is on file with the State of Hawaii Department of Health.
  2. The file number for the Certificate of live Birth for Barack Hussein Obama, II, is 151 61 10641.
  3. The information contained in the “Certificate of Live Birth” published at and reviewed by me on the date of this verification, a copy of which is attached with your request, matches the information contained in the original Certificate of Live Birth for Barack Hussein Obama, II on file with the State of Hawaii Department of Health.

Are you being served?

A curious notice appeared on the Docket of the Grinols v. Electoral College lawsuit in the Eastern District of California. It is the statement of a process server in Hawaii who attempted to serve a subpoena on state vital records chief Dr. Alvin Onaka. As I pointed out in another article, Orly Taitz sues Dr. Onaka a lot. This time it’s just a subpoena, but she’s trying to get the same records, to which she is not entitled, as always.

In this case the server, one Lawrence B. Fenton, executed service by putting papers on a desk and uttering the magic incantation “You are served” in front of a security guard and a secretary, both of whom said they were not authorized to accept service.

Dorothy from the Wizard of OzAnybody remotely familiar with The Federal Rules of Magical Civil Procedure should know that when serving a defendant by magic incantation, the spell must be repeated three times, not two, as for example in the The Wizard of Oz where Dorothy had to say “there’s no place like home” three times before the Oz Wizengamot granted the motion to remand her case to Kansas.
