Zullo responds, maybe, someday

So we’ve been waiting for a very long time for a very long list of things promised by Mike Zullo. Now, via Carl Gallups on Facebook, we have something else to wait for:

INFORMATION COMING HERE on the CBS-5 NEWS EXPOSE (Hit Piece) on Mike Zullo, Sheriff Arpaio, and the Cold-Case Posse. Carl Gallups will have quotes and comments from Mike Zullo to contribute to the information.

STAND BY.

You use that word “information,” but don’t think it means what you think it does.

Birthers factor in Maryland election

Just two days ago tweets from Donald Trump, tied by a USA Today reporter to the fake Barry Soetoro Columbia University student ID, found their way into the news. Now another tweet, this time republished by Republican candidate for Maryland state comptroller, William Campbell, has become an issue in his campaign.

The Delmarva Daily Times reports this 2013 entry from Campbell’s Facebook page:

Note Campbell’s comment, “He does look like Travon (sic), doesn’t he?”

The newspaper is quick to note that the ID image is faked: the digital barcode wasn’t used in 1981, and the Obama photo was from Harvard.

When questioned, Campbell said that he didn’t remember the post, and:

I have other issues with his governance, but I don’t believe in that birther stuff.

This is not the only injection of birtherism into Maryland Politics. Democratic candidate for Maryland’s governor, Anthony Brown, has sent out a mailer raising the issue. This image was reported by The Daily Record in Baltimore:

Brown is a strong favorite to win.

Suspected: Birther shoots two law enforcement officers

Authorities, according to The Modesto Bee and other sources,  have identified the man who is suspected of shooting a California Highway Patrol officer and a Bureau of Land Management ranger at a Nevada County, California, campground last Saturday, as Brent Douglas Cole. Cole, 60, was himself wounded in the confrontation and is in stable condition.

In any shooting incident, the first question that comes to mind is: Is the suspect a birther? Evidence is mounting that he is a birther. Check out this August 2012 Tweet:

Cole was also a commenter on Mike Volin’s Sheriff’s Kits go to Washington Facebook page.

Taitz claims victory in California AG vote

Wins Tea Party straw poll in Yuba City

Yuba City sits right at edge of Sutter Buttes in Sutter County.

Wiki Commons

The Sutter Buttes Tea Party Patriots held a straw poll last week (May 19), and Taitz reports she won the Attorney General race. Taitz was invited to appear at the Sutter Buttes Tea Party Patriots “Meet the Candidates” in 2012 when she was running for the Senate—don’t know if she made it, but she had confirmed. Orly Taitz got 3.9% of the Senate Primary vote in Sutter County in 2012.

The Territorial Dispatch (the local newspaper) mentions the “All Candidates Mixer” in its May 14 issue mentions, but the May 21 and May 28 issues don’t mention the result. It only appears on their blog.  The Sutter Buttes Tea Party Web site has some photos of the event.

I did find this cryptic item in the Territorial Dispatch for May 21:

Meanwhile, the Orly Taitz Super PAC is taking credit for Orly’s win in Yuba City. In an article titled: “Stunning success for Orly Taitz Super PAC” they write:

This is HUGE!

Followers of the Orly Taitz Super PAC may remember Pat M’s comment on our Supporter’s Page:

I was real excited at the presentation at the Protect Our Freedoms Foundation workshop in Yuba City. What your doing is very important and I just wish I had more dollars to spare.

Well Pat, thanks to you and many more, we’ve achieved a stunning success in Yuba City. Candidate Taitz on her blog reports the news that:

the Sutter Buttes Tea Party Patriots announced the results of their 2014 Gubernatorial Primary Election Straw Poll. The Straw Poll was conducted using secret ballots submitted by members who attended the “All Candidates Mixer Extravaganza,” Monday, May 19, 2014.

Their choice for California Attorney General?

ORLY!

Fakes and Frauds

Orly is saying that someone created a fake Facebook page for her. She asked that it be removed, and the link Orly supplied doesn’t work now, so maybe Facebook did remove it.

Operation American Spring v. Lymanfest

Blogger predicts small-town festival will out-draw national protest

imageI’ve lived in Lyman, South Carolina, for 6 years now but so far I’ve not actually made it to Lymanfest, the annual town celebration. I tried to go one year, but I couldn’t find it (they never mention on the web site exactly where it is), and I’ll miss it again this year because I’ll be attending the Obot meetup in Philadelphia that weekend.

I feel pretty confident that Lymanfest will significantly out-draw the Obot meetup, but Operation American Spring I’m not sure about. I give Lymanfest the edge. All three events are scheduled at the same time.

Neither Operation American Spring nor Lymanfest is getting much media coverage beyond niche Internet sites and social networking. On Facebook, Lymanfest is trailing OAS by a considerable margin. The official OAS Facebook page has 5,611 “likes” as of this writing compared to 65 for Lymanfest. There are OAS splinter group pages (here and here) that are doing better.

imageI am trying to get estimates on Lymanfest attendance. The original claims from OAS organizer Col. Harry Riley (US Army ret.) said that there “1.8 million definite militia members” coming (reported Mother Jones back on January); however, that number has been called into question since it exceeds by several orders of magnitude the total number of militia members in the United States. The Vocativ web site published an informative article on OAS yesterday titled, “A Former Colonel Plans to Overthrow the U.S. Government on May 16,” subtitled, “The founder Of Operation American Spring is planning a million-man march on D.C. But will anyone show up?”

Unlike Lymanfest, which is a single-day event, Operation American Spring envisions persons camping out in the Capitol until President Obama, Eric Holder, and the Congressional leadership resigns. President Obama will leave office January 20, 2017.

My personal prediction is that Lymanfest will be the attendance winner. I don’t think that many Americans want to turn the United States into Egypt.

MCSO Cold Case Posse Prayer Support Group

imageWhen I followed the link to the MCSO Cold Case Posse Prayer Support Group Facebook page, my punking antenna was up; however, this seems to be a straight-up page supporting the Cold Case Posse. The group’s founder says:

This page is dedicated to covering the MCSO Cold Case Posse in prayer for the Lord’s wisdom and safety over these people. Join us today as the day nears when this criminal investigation will finally expose the fraudulent usurpation of the office of President of the United States. We will be posting articles and updates here on a continuous basis. If you are a man or woman of prayer please join us, especially now as the day approaches.

I have Mike Zullo on my personal prayer list, which means I have to be nicer to him in print than I might otherwise be inclined to be, and I can subscribe to part of that mission statement: wisdom and safety. I do not however, acknowledge that any day is nearing when Obama will be “exposed” for something he didn’t do. The only danger to the Cold Case Posse is the just consequences of their own actions. I can pray for justice tempered with mercy, but not that the Posse’s misdeeds go without recognition and sanction.

So far I have refrained from commenting on the Facebook page because I can’t think of anything to say that wouldn’t go towards confirming the prejudices against anti-birthers that many in the birther community hold. If it devolves into hate speech, I’ll reconsider.

I’ve been thinking about writing an essay titled “The Conservative attack on Christianity.” If I do, it will be published on one of my other blogs, perhaps Jesus was a Liberal, and I’ll leave a note in the Open Thread here. There is no shortage of precedent in the Bible for prayer to end oppression,1 and these birthers, fanned by the right-wing media, earnestly believe that Obama is an oppressor as well as a usurper, but the virulent hate speech we see coming from those attaching the President is inimical to Christian principles.

1Why do you hide your face?
Why do you forget our affliction and oppression?
