I was a little stung by a criticism I read on another blog that “Dr. Conspiracy does no research.” That raised my hackles when I thought about the hundreds of hours in research I have done.

But the fact of the matter is that I rather burned out on research. If you find 50 things that prove your case, what is the marginal value of adding another one? There are 50 articles on this, and 50 on that — about 475 in total already on this blog. So as of late, I’ve been more into publishing “current events” and fluffier pieces. I also question the marginal value of more debunking when the birthers have been caught in so many lies that one more could hardly tarnish their reputation. The courts do not seem to be inclined to believe any of it, and issues of standing render the “natural born citizen” argument moot. With that discussion anyone with sense already knows, and those without sense aren’t going to changed their minds.

Anyway, now you know why I have turned on the valve and published a pile of research, citing some lesser known cases, and things that one will not see on page one of a Google search. What I intend to do for a while is publish one article on one historical source of interest. I’m not attempting to weave it into one epic saga of US legal history; someone else can do that. I’m going to make the source material more accessible.

Orly’s web site has taken on a decidedly evangelical tone of late with two feature articles:

From Reader Bill FitzPatrick

Dear Orly: May the Good Lord Bless and Keep you safe and of sound mind for the task you are undertaking. Just like our First Real President George Washington knelt before his battle with the English Crown at our country’s beginning,

and

Thank you for your prayer, America’s spiritual foundation. Good trumps evil, we will win, I just hope it happens soon, before they destroy this country and it’s [sic] economy

PRAY led by the HOLY SPIRIT TO:

1) Set an impenetrable angelic hedge of protection around District Judge David O. Carter, and attorney Orly Taitz.

2) Confound, and bind the enemy with the light of God through Christ Jesus in us, that the darkness in their false case will be completely exposed to the nation!

3) Deal swiftly when the enemy steps out of these bounds, bind their tongues.

… This is a link to George Washington’s Prayer Journal

The link to the prayer journal is not working, but you can pick it up here. The only extant source for the journal is its inclusion in a work by William J. Johnson: George Washington, the Christian (New York: The Abingdon Press, New York & Cincinnati, 1919). It has been a number of years since I researched this topic, but my conclusion the last time around was that the GW Prayer Journal is pious fraud. Most mentions of the Prayer Journal on the Internet are found on conservative Christian web sites like this one. Contrary views are found here and here, here, here, here and background here. I put many links to the “anti” side because they are frankly hard to find. Now here’s an interesting statistic, how many Google hits for: “Washington’s prayer journal” Obama? The answer is 6,650. Add “kenya” and you still get 109. Do you see a pattern here?

[Note: I have started including hyperlinks to Orly's web site again, now that the Google malware warning has stopped. I would still recommend running up to date antivirus and anti-malware software when visiting any Internet site (even this one).]

It’s a witch hunt over on Orly’s blog.

A while back someone posted a rather nasty comment there including a death wish for Orly (that she be tried for sedition and hung). The Internet address (the IP address1) of the commenter was recorded and published. Another commenter looked the IP address and found the geographic region where such addresses are found. They took the center of that region, looked it up on Google maps, turned that into a street address, looked up the street address and found out who lived there. Orly then took this email “research” and posted the name, email address, street address, and place of employment of David R____, the unfortunate person the dart thrown at a map of the United States landed on.

One is extremely lucky if the geographic location found in an IP lookup is within a dozen miles of the actual computer.

In any case, the identification made maybe has a chance of one in 20,000 of being right. (If this technique actually worked, we would have known the identity of Ron Polarik 6 months ago.)

So David R____’s personal information has been posted on Orly’s web site along with the claim that he made death threats against her. Orly has taken the information from an e-mail and turned it into an article on her site. It has been reported that Mr. R____ has been called in for an explanation by his employer (the first time he knew anything about this business).

This is part of a pattern of associating things based on the smallest of similarities, for example, the claim that President Obama has dozens of different Social Security numbers, or that David R____ lived within a couple dozen miles (maybe) of the real culprit.

I think what Orly is doing is criminally irresponsible. If David wants to sue, I’m in for $50 in legal fees.

1Any time you visit a web site, you leave behind an Internet address pointing to your computer. Of course, that computer address may change from time to time, and you may be using a public computer, or a computer in an organization where all the workstations appear to the outside as having the same address. Law enforcement can obtain access to Internet service provider records and often locate the particular customer belonging to a particular address. As far as public information, an IP address indicates a broad geographic area, and not necessarily even the correct city.

Note: the posting of personal identifying information on this blog is prohibited (excepting what may appear in official court documents in Obama-related cases made available for viewing here).

Note: while Orly’s blog is under quarantine for malicious scripts, I’m not posting links to her web site.
