Sheriff Joe’s close call

The records indicate that FBI agents found probable cause to recommend felony counts of obstructing criminal investigations of prosecutions, theft by threats, tampering with witnesses, perjury and theft by extortion.

USA Today

The Arizona Republic newspaper web site broke the story after they obtained pages of heavily redacted material from the FBI relating to the criminal investigation of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation was closed in 2012 after federal prosecutors said that they didn’t have a guaranteed win, going against FBI investigator recommendations to file charges against at least 2 individuals.

I wasn’t going to cover the story because it talks about unproven allegations, but I see it’s getting some traction, and belongs in the record. As Perry Mason would say, “it goes to credibility, Your Honor.”

Local taxpayers fed up with Arpaio investigation

imageSheriff Joe Arpaio has been letting birthers play “cops and President” at his office since birther enthusiast Jerome Corsi introduced the game at a local Tea Party gathering last year. Some local taxpayers, however, became outraged when they learned that $40,000 of Department funds had been used to send one of the birthers to play detective in Hawaii.

Carolyn Cooper of Citizens for a better Arizona appeared before the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors to vent her frustration:

Sheriff Arpaio can no longer be trusted to act in the best interest of what’s best for citizens and residents in Maricopa County when it comes to public safety. This birther investigation is an embarrassment to many of us who call Arizona our home.

Thanks to CBS local affiliate KPHO for the story. AZCentral has further details on the expenses.

Is the Cold Case Posse resurrection of long-dead crank theories responsible for the upsurge in concern over zombies?

This is death penalty stuff!

That’s what a fellow on YouTube said after listening to the Arizona press conference where Sheriff Joe Arpaio uttered those infamous words “probable cause.” He believes that the proper penalty for someone forging their way into the White House is the death penalty. After Obama is convicted, LoneStar1776 volunteers to be the  executioner.

I’m so excited that I can’t even talk.

This video is so far out there that I had to create a new category for it, Birther Extremism. This fellow is wound up way too tight, but it just goes to show what Farah, Corsi, and Arpaio are playing with.
