The case of David R___
It’s a witch hunt over on Orly’s blog.
A while back someone posted a rather nasty comment there including a death wish for Orly (that she be tried for sedition and hung). The Internet address (the IP address1) of the commenter was recorded and published. Another commenter looked the IP address and found the geographic region where such addresses are found. They took the center of that region, looked it up on Google maps, turned that into a street address, looked up the street address and found out who lived there. Orly then took this email “research” and posted the name, email address, street address, and place of employment of David R____, the unfortunate person the dart thrown at a map of the United States landed on.
One is extremely lucky if the geographic location found in an IP lookup is within a dozen miles of the actual computer.
In any case, the identification made maybe has a chance of one in 20,000 of being right. (If this technique actually worked, we would have known the identity of Ron Polarik 6 months ago.)
So David R____’s personal information has been posted on Orly’s web site along with the claim that he made death threats against her. Orly has taken the information from an e-mail and turned it into an article on her site. It has been reported that Mr. R____ has been called in for an explanation by his employer (the first time he knew anything about this business).
This is part of a pattern of associating things based on the smallest of similarities, for example, the claim that President Obama has dozens of different Social Security numbers, or that David R____ lived within a couple dozen miles (maybe) of the real culprit.
I think what Orly is doing is criminally irresponsible. If David wants to sue, I’m in for $50 in legal fees. (more…)
Ron Polarik identified?
The Barackyphal Blog claims to have identified the figure behind Ron Polarik as Dr. Ronald Polland. What is remarkable, if this identification is true, is that the man behind the Ron Polarik mask really does have a PhD in Instructional Systems, albeit no credentials in computer imaging (which anyone who had the stomach to wade through his “analysis” knows).
I was all over Florida State graduates in Instructional Systems half a year ago, but somehow I didn’t find the fellow. I could kick myself!
Now if we could just prove that this fellow is a descendant of the Bulgarian financier Petko Strashnika, the identification would be cemented.
Here is the latest rant from Polarik in a post titled “We were warned…” over at the Free Republic site.
Update:
It appears that lawyer Phil Berg has confirmed the identification.
Further evidence Polarik is Polland!
With this additional information, I believe the Polarik/Polland association is proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
I have said many times in private that whoever outed Ron Polarik would be doing a tremendous service to the United States. Huge thanks to Loren at the Barackryphal blog for this.
Update:
Aha! The Bulgarian is Polland’s wife. So we come full circle.
I think Loren should be voted man of the year.!
“Ronald Polarik”
“Ron Polarik” is the pseudonym of a human being who claims to be an expert in the detection of altered document images. Polarik is mentioned as an expert in the Berg lawsuit and he appears under the further pseudonym XXXXXXXXXXXX in the Alan Keyes lawsuit in Hawaii.[1] Polarik publishes a web site Obamas bogus birth certificate exposed. Polarik also has a YouTube video.
It’s somewhat difficult to write a biographical sketch of someone who invents himself out of thin air. Polarik creates a history for himself at various times and places. The most comprehensive version is in the Keyes lawsuit, where Polarik claims academic credentials, and indeed, he often signs his name as Ronald Polarik, PhD.
I am Dr. XXXXXXXXXXXX, and I hold a PhD in Instructional Systems with 25+ years of post-doctoral work experience, and a Masters Degree in Educational Research, Design, and Testing. I have worked with computers and computer printers, plotters, and optical/digital scanners, typesetting, offset printing, and automatic typewriters, for over thirty (30) years…In my professional career I have held positions as a Computer Programmer, Web Designer, Media Consultant, Research Director and Statistician. I have testified as a Statistical Expert in Governmental hearings over the last twenty (20) years.
In a later statement this distinguished person said “I’d say that I punk’d you good enough.”
A computer image analysis expert, Dr. Neal Krawetz, has analyzed Polarik’s work and published his results describing Polarik’s analysis as “bad science”.
Why would anyone doubt the word of a US Senator who puts forward a birth certificate, and then turn around and accept an analysis of it from someone who won’t even give his right name?
I suppose the guy behind Ron thinks this is fun, making fake affidavits files in court cases, spouting bad science as if it were real, keeping tens of thousands of people in an uproar. I suppose he is laughing at the people who have bought his phony PhD. Personally, I think the guy belongs in jail. I hope some prosecutor will figure out a crime that matches his hoax and let “Ronald Polarik, PhD” learn how a real court works.
