Michelle Obama spilt beans?

In August 26, 2008, before the presidential election, Michelle Obama spoke before the LGBT Democratic caucus, and made one remark that has been seized upon by a certain faction as evidence that Barack Obama was born in Africa. Michelle Obama said “when we took a trip to Africa and visited his home country in Kenya…”  It’s old news, but being recycled.

There is a rumor running around that folks in Kenya are afraid to say Obama was born there, and a great cover up to hide that fact. However, there are no shortage of metaphorical statements like “home country” or “son of the soil” or the remark of the Kenyan ambassador. So there is no reluctance to use metaphors. You will find no one who will say “Barack Obama was born in Africa.” This leads me to believe that the metaphors should not be taken literally. Contrast that to Hawaiian officials who say quite concretely that Barack Obama was born in Hawaii.

Perhaps it wasn’t meant literally – who knows except those that do know – for absolutely certain. And no, I’m not talking about the Obots that ‘think’ they know because Obama and FactCheck said so.

What is disturbing that a President of the US considers his ‘home country’ to be other than the country that he is president of. My mother is from Ireland, but she was naturalized prior to my birth here in the US. Yes, I’m proud of my Irish heritage, but Ireland is NOT my home country – never was, never will be, and would never claim it as such, because my home country is the US.

Perhaps Obama just really has no clue where his home is, so he or his wife goes around claiming any nation as ‘home’ that helps the cause of the day.

Perhaps Obama just really has no clue where his home is, so he or his wife goes around claiming any nation as ‘home’ that helps the cause of the day.

Your such a troll Scott. You have no interest other than the destruction of President Obama.

And that you take the rest of the country with it is of even less concern to you

  3. Whatever4 says:

JFK felt Ireland was his home country. So much so that the JFK Library once had an exhibit called “A Journey Home – John F. Kennedy and Ireland.”

Boston — In June 1963, President John F. Kennedy, America’s first Irish-Catholic president, journeyed to his ancestral homeland of Ireland, a homecoming he later described as “one of the most moving experiences” of his life.

On St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 2006, the Museum at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library will open “A Journey Home – John F. Kennedy and Ireland,” a special, new exhibit that explores President Kennedy’s relationship to his ancestral homeland, featuring a large selection of never-before-seen materials from the Museum Collection including gifts presented to the president by the people of Ireland as well as other artifacts, documents, photographs and film footage relating to his Irish heritage and his June 26-29,1963 state visit to the country of his ancestors.

President Kennedy relished his Irish heritage, and during his historic visit to Ireland remarked to the people of Limerick, “This is not the land of my birth but it is the land for which I hold the greatest affection.

    JFK in Ireland

  4. nBC says:

But that’s JFK, that’s different.. He is a Christian… Oh wait… so is Obama, what’s the obvious difference I wonder…

  5. misha says:

“But that’s JFK, that’s different.. He is a Christian”

No, JFK was Roman Catholic. The first ever. Remember Hoover went around the country bellowing that if his opponent was elected, the pope will be president. And there are plenty of Baptist ministers who call RC ‘a false religion.’ Google it.

Besides, maybe Obama is a secret commiemuslim. And terrist sympathizer.

You watch: every Repug senator will vote against the Russian nuke treaty, and McSame will say ‘Obama is threatening our security and safety.’

  6. Hawaiiborn says:

Perhaps Obama just really has no clue where his home is, so he or his wife goes around claiming any nation as ‘home’ that helps the cause of the day.

what nonsense. My parents are both US Citizens (my mother “naturalized” when Hawaii became a State). My grandparents were born in hawaii, but their parents were from Okinawa and Japan.

I consider Japan and Okinawa as much as my “home country” as the US. I’ve grown up under Japanese culture, and spoke Japanese fluently (until middle school – couldn’t read it for beans however). And we went to Japan once every year until the economic bubble burst in the late 80’s.

That is what is nice about being in the US, you can claim anyplace you like as your “home country”, it doesn’t mean I disrespect or do not consider the US my home country. Its one of several.

Idiots only think that black and white.

  7. Greg says:

I’ll repeat that this nonsense proves nothing more than the uncurable whiteness of birthers.

As pointed out below, JFK considered Ireland his “home country,” but, that’s okay. African-Americans have called Africa the home continent for, well, ever. Right now, it’s in the name: African-American.

This is just more of the racist “I’d never call myself any hyphenated American, because I’m a pure white patriot!”

  8. kimba says:

That’s right. Move the goalposts again. You know Obama was born in Hawaii, because after 2 years you’ve been unable to present even a crumb of evidence to prove otherwise, so you shift to “well he must be a communist socialist muslim usurperin mofo because he calls an Arican nation his homeland. What ‘rill’ American does that?”. Why don’t you people just come out with it and admit it’s Obama is just too black for you. No matter what anyone ever says or presents, you’ll always find another excuse to try to dismiss him. This kind of stuff reveals how petty and small people like you really are.

  9. YellowDog says:

When descendants of immigrant groups celebrate their heritage on St. Patrick’s Day or Columbus Day, no one says a thing, or they join the celebration. When descendants of groups brought by force to this country acknowledge their heritage, panties start to twist up. Now, when the son of a Kenyan student acknowledges his heritage, it’s evidence that he doesn’t love his country. Racist much?

  10. G says:

Misha, I know what you are saying, but I just want to issue a clarification: Roman Catholics ARE Christians and have always been.

In fact most of the other groups out there (particularly in America) that call themselves Christians are really just splinter groups that split off of the Roman Catholic Church at some point – many of them didn’t even exist until after the Protestant Reformation…or even centuries after that as that whole group has continuously splintered itself.

…But then again, as you well know, Jesus was originally a Jew and therefore Christianity itself is nothing but a splinter sect that broke off from Judaism.

  11. BatGuano says:

When descendants of immigrant groups celebrate their heritage on St. Patrick’s Day or Columbus Day, no one says a thing, or they join the celebration.

i think the key here is to associate your holiday with excessive drinking. st patty’s day and cinco de mayo have been very successful on this front . if you had to drink a shot for every candle lit i think you’d have much wider acceptance of kwanzaa in the states ( altho that would run counter to the concept of cleansing the body, mind and spirit but……. somethings got to give ).

  12. SFJeff says:

Ah Scott- taking up the mantle of Birther hate towards Obama.

Be proud of your embracing any hint of anything that can harm the President, and scoffing at solid declarations by actual authorities.

Go stand amongst your peers- the ones proclaiming that income taxes are unconstitutional and that the U.S. never landed on the moon. Stand firm in your convictions that there must be a conspiracy, there just must be one.

  13. Mary Brown says:

Since President Obama did not say it,you have no idea what was meant. You are extrapolating.

  14. Dave says:

Well, whatever Scott’s interest may be, it seems unlikely his posts will have any effect on the future of the President or the country. So I think neither he nor we need really worry about that.

  15. BatGuano says:

Well, whatever Scott’s interest may be, it seems unlikely his posts will have any effect on the future of the President or the country.

i’m not sure about that. i’m curious to see what role the birthers play in upcoming campaign ads. my prediction is that dems ( and some repubs ) will highlight some of the crazier birther antics and rants to paint a picture of the far right as irrational to appeal to moderate voters.

  16. It may also be the case that Birther’s publish independent campaign ads for or against particular candidates.

  17. We have both the BMW auto manufacturing facility and the North American Headquarters of Michelin Tire close by. I predict that one year, the Germans at the local Octoberfest will get drunk and invade Michelin.

  18. thisoldhippie says:

I truly do not believe that Jesus Christ intended to begin an entire new religion, but rather intended to reform Judaism at the time. Not much different than Martin Luther. However, some very driven people realized that they could use this to control the masses. Of course, they had to first get rid of the smaller sects – such as the Gnostics – and control the new religion.

  19. TRUTH says:

Funny nbc doesn’t defend Obama but rather tears down Scott Brown(or attempts to at least), rather than stick to the Original post. Very typical of the left to attack the other side before they defend their own. JUST LIKE Obama always says…”well I took over..” or “the last 8 years blah blah….” He or YOU are great at pointing fingers. To bad neither of you have anything worthy to defend.

And I would like to Second your idea of the Destruction of President Obama(literally that is lefties, don’t get your panties in a bunch). Because he’s worthless, so he needs to go. I WILL accept allowing him to stay until the next election just to make his voters happy. That is as long as he stops taking the country Backwards.

nbc, your a fool for thinking SCOTT or Any Conservative wants the “rest of the country” to be destroyed. We’re bickering BECAUSE we don’t want that to happen. take your head out of the sand for once.

  20. TRUTH says:

its’ all Relative H-born. You call it potaTO, he calls it PoTahTO. You feel because your genes originated in another country, that’s your Home Country. Others believe “HOME” country means the one you were Born and Raised in. The later being MY definition. My great grandfather is from Ireland, but that’s not my HOME country, United States is. Where would you draw the line, 1 generation…3…7 generations? At SOME point it has to change. So logically, HOME is where one Lives. BORN and Raised in your HOME gives solid reason for me to call U.S. my Home country. But HEY, You put whatever SPIN on the word you wish to make yourself feel better about it. ANd to aid in the Ignorance of the Obama’s. If Japan is your home, I hear there’s planes leaving every day for there and many apartments available. We’re going to miss ya.

  21. Mary Brown says:

You take us backward or to a new place that would result in a third-world nation. We would have a group of folks who control most of the wealth. Their only instinct would be to continue their position of dominance. Innovation? No. That would threaten them. You see it would not matter if everyone else were poor. Look at Mexico. That is the kind of society you people are talking about. Not here. Not now.

  22. Mary Brown says:

Stop the snark. You make a point that is worth hearing and then you end it with insult?

  23. TRUTH says:

Mary, just how much are you educated into U.S. Economics? Can you tell me the percentage of “Poor” people, and how extremely even the poor have it in the U.S.? And yes, I KNOW there are some AWFUL/TERRIBLE Cases out there, but that’s the law of averages. It’s going to have a few of the worst NO MATTER WHAT. You seem to think this is a poverty stricken country, or will become one. And please define “YOU PEOPLE” for me near the end of your rhetoric. I know if I said “YOU PEOPLE” to you, it would stir a lotta controversy. But since Libs work from different Rules, you can tell me what it means.

  24. TRUTH says:

That’s Sarcastic Humor, not an insult. Don’t like it? Sorry for your lack of wit.

  25. TRUTH says:

(my bad, typo… it’s “..extremely bad off even the poor….” )

  26. G says:

Hey Truth, spare us your false bravado.

If you or “Scott Brown” would act like adults here, then you would be treated as such. Instead of all your over-the-top rants and smears on the president, why don’t you provide actual intelligent debate or opinion?

You said: “I WILL accept allowing him to stay until the next election just to make his voters happy.”

Oh really? How gracious of you…*snark*

Like you have a choice – NOT. Face it, until 2012, there is nothing you can do about it, except continue to whine and bitch like a spoiled little child. In 2012, you will have your right to vote like everyone else.

Just remember, this is a diverse country filled with diverse opinions and not everyone sees the world as you do. Therefore, just because you are entitled to cast your vote for the candidate of your choice does not mean you are entitled to win. If Obama again receives the majority of the vote, you’ll just have to accept that your opinions are in the minority and DEAL with it.

Oh, and anyone advocating the “destruction” of a President – you are a traitor to this country in my mind. I thought Bush ended up being a total blunder and often came off as an idiot, but I would never have wished for his “destruction”. No, the President, whether I like him or not is the leader of our Country.

Unlike you, I don’t want our country to fail. Especially not for such petty reasons as one party over another. While I was often disappointed and frustrated by GWB and totally disgusted by Cheney, I always hoped that they would get a clue and not screw up the next thing…or the next…

Unfortunately, I was often disappointed. But he won the election and he won reelection, so it was his country to run until his terms were up.

Even though I could understand a lot of people’s frustration, I loathed and had no patience with “Bush Derangement Syndrome” where whiny idiots would blame Bush for every stupid or petty little thing under the sun.

Similarly, I have no respect for whiny idiots like you who suffer from “Obama Derangement Syndrome”.

If anything, you ODS folks are 100 times worse. At least it took a few years of several large scale demonstrative screw-ups for BDS to really take hold.

Many of you ODS folks came out of the woodwork before the man ever stepped foot into office …so why is that? Are you so biased to anyone who is different from you, that you feel the need to instantly demonize them to justify yourself in some small petty way?

You’re not about fairness, openness or truth in the least.

No, you and “Scott Brown” and those like you are nothing but petty two-bit ideological hacks who just blather forth whatever talking points your conservative leaders tell you.

  27. G says:

The irony here is you are the one trying to make a mountain out of a molehill and then you go off on someone else just because they choose to speak differently than you.

So what have we learned here? Some people use the word “home country” as nothing more than a euphemism of fondness to refer to a place of their ancestry. It is nothing more than an indication that they are proud of their heritage and says nothing about where they were actually born.

Further, such statements do not in any way make them less patriotic Americans or mean that they aren’t proud to be born in this country.

Of course, you’re just an ideological hack, so you’re looking to make something out of nothing. Pathetic.

  28. TRUTH says:

Look, LIBERAL SPIN!!! You took my words as meaning Exactly what YOU wanted them to. Isn’t that a surprise…NOT!

Because I say “I’ll accept him being here until 2012”, it’s just a phrase meaning no more no less. I’m not your Birther, as MUCH as I wish he born on The moon(he’s not is he?…that’s a Joke). BUT, You manage to put a spin on words to make it a Negative. No big surprise coming from the LEft SPIN-Masters.

Don’t give me your “leader of this country” Bullcrap. If not YOU, then 95% of your Democrat Brethren’s Scorned G.W.Bush for the entire 8 years, calling him names and wishing him nothing but the worst. So don’t act like your this High n Mighty Loyal to your Country Patriot. You are just like the rest, whine and cuss when you are out of office, Praise and appear Loyal when you are in. Take your Fake act elsewhere. And I’m not petty anything “GEE”! I’ve seen and done a lot in my life. And I know the difference between Right and Wrong. A trait you will probably NEVER acquire unfortunately.

  29. TRUTH says:

Ideological Hack? Those are might big words “GEE”. And you missed the entire Point, for you didn’t even mention it in your whiny rant.

As for the PRESIDENT and/or his Wife claiming Homage to other countries. THAT is PATHETIC…that and you accepting it. Yes, you are One Loyal PATRIOT for sure.

  30. TRUTH says:

@ GEE “….so why is that? Are you so biased to anyone who is different from you, that you feel the need to instantly demonize them…”

Hey GEE, just call me a racist next time and get it overwith. You sir are a freggin Idiot!

  31. G says:

    Truth says:

@ GEE “….so why is that? Are you so biased to anyone who is different from you, that you feel the need to instantly demonize them…”Hey GEE, just call me a racist next time and get it overwith. You sir are a freggin Idiot!

Hey Truth – I never said anything about race, you fool. Only you went there…so what does that say?

Let’s put it in simple terms so you can understand: Is race the only way that someone is different from you? Maybe in your small mind.

No, you simpleton, I was referring more to your patent attacks on anyone who doesn’t share your ideological “conservative worldview” – how you immediately paint anyone who might support this administration as if they must be “liberal” and that you intentionally use that word as a pejorative epithet.

Read my whole post. My entire context was about ideology and had nothing to do with race.

Sorry bozo, but there are are many OTHER ways that people differ and seem to demonize others that are different from them: religion, income, ideology, etc. Race is only one factor. But since that immediately is what came to your mind…then, what does that say about you?

  32. G says:

Once again “Truth”, you show yourself to be nothing but a blind, ideological hack. You’re only defensive here because I’m not afraid to call you out on your crap.

Let’s look at the quote I attacked you on:

You said: “I WILL accept allowing him to stay until the next election just to make his voters happy.”

Those are YOUR EXACT WORDS, NOT the “Because I say “I’ll accept him being here until 2012‘, it’s just a phrase meaning no more no less. ” that you claim.

So, who’s trying to spin here? You obviously can’t even quote yourself properly. So, you are a LIAR, “Truth”.

So, let’s analyze the REAL statement you said again, shall we…

“I WILL accept allowing him to stay until the next election just to make his voters happy.”

Hey, you were the one who capitalized WILL in that sentence…just what do you think that implies, eh? It comes across pretty pompous to me.

And the whole “just to make his voters happy”…wow… awful smug there too.

So, tell me mister “waaah…you’re just painting me bad with ‘liberal spin'”…

…be honest, how is anyone to interpret what you said? It comes across smug and pretentious, as if you somehow have some control or say in the matter.

That is all I was calling you out on, and you can’t handle it.

You could have just been an adult and said that all you MEANT to say was ““I’ll accept him being here until 2012‘,”

And I would have said ok, as that does sound like a fair and realistic statement to make.

    But you didn’t.

Oh, and you are most definitely a “birther”. You’ve been posting birther talking points on here for months. You can’t try to run and hide from what you are there either.

  33. Whatever one means, it is not credible that Michelle Obama would have made a public statement in which she intended to say that Barack Obama was born in Kenya. If Michelle Obama did not intend that as her meaning, then it says nothing of interest to this blog.

  34. G says:

    TRUTH spills further billage:

First of all, I love how you make automatic assumptions, just because someone does not agree with you. I did register as a Democrat in 2008 in order to vote for Obama in the 2008 primaries, because you have to be registered to a party to vote in their primary in my state. Prior to that, I was registered as a republican for many years. However, I don’t have loyalty to any party and have always viewed myself as an independent. My liberal friends and even some of my conservative friends have usually considered me to be “center-right”, but I’ve always considered myself to be a pragmatic centrist. On many social issues, I’d say my positions are fairly liberal to libertarian, but otherwise, I’m fiscally conservative, a strong tort reform advocate and a strong supporter of the death penalty and of having a strong military defense.

The problem is that folks like you have shifted so far to the far right of the spectrum that everything else seems “liberal” to you. Which is laughable.

Poor Reagan and Lincoln…by today’s right-wing standard’s, they’d be attacked as liberal too.

I’m not the one whining here, YOU are. I’m attacking pompous, cry-baby jerks like YOU who are whining because you lost the election and my attacks are pointed DIRECTLY at your own words and statements.

My love for this country and my patriotism is just fine, thank you. You are no one to question anyone else’s love for this country.

And spare me this 95% bogus number myth you made up. Of course there were lots of people with BDS. I’ve already said as much before.

But then there were lots of legitimate criticism of Bush and his many failures too – and although there were more Democrats pointing it out, Bush’s mess-ups received a fair amount of criticism from across the political perspective.

I’ll openly admit to anything I’ve ever critisized Bush for and also to the areas where I gave him credit. See, in reality, no one is 100% a screw up or 100% right, except in the BS spin of ideological hacks.

I can also admit to areas where I was critical of Bush and was happy to be proved wrong – (I didn’t think the Surge could make a difference in Iraq – I’m VERY HAPPY to be wrong on that).

I can also straight up tell you things about Obama, Clinton, GHWB, & Reagan that I both agreed with and disagreed with.

So no, unlike agenda-driven hacks like you, I’ve got nothing to hide or apologize for and my loyalty to this country is no different than it was 2 years ago or 10 years ago or 20 years ago.

  35. G says:

    That is your opinion.

My opinion still stands – you’re looking for any little words you can twist to make an issue out of nothing. “Homage” to other coutries…get over yourself. What an exaggeration.

As I said, mountains out of molehills and your nothing but wear-his-flag-on-his sleeve false patriotism does not impress me either.

Oh, and what are you trying to do, spell phonetically? It’s simply G, not “GEE”. Is 1 letter too hard for you to remember?

  36. G says:

And I know the difference between Right and Wrong. A trait you will probably NEVER acquire unfortunately.

Hah! Oh the irony! The reason I don’t give you any slack and I call you what you are – an ideological hack is because not only do you spew talking-point nonsense, but you have the audacity to use “TRUTH” as your moniker.

You should post under the name “PROPAGANDA”, because that is all you are about.

You don’t have any regard for the truth and obviously don’t even understand what that word means. Truth isn’t opinion, you fool.

The fact that you can’t see the difference either shows that you are an idiot or have an intentional agenda and spreading false propaganda.

Of course you have to try to say you know the difference between right and wrong and to attack others, because in reality you don’t and your only hope is to try to convince someone who’s gullible about your BS. So keep lying to yourself and lying to others…but not many are going to buy it here.

If you don’t like me calling you out and treating you harshly, stop being such an *ss and inviting it.

  37. myson says:

I am surprised “Truth” didnt say anything about JFK’s comments about his ancestry !!!!!

Only the “other” can say it & its fact, “our” own says the same thing & its just talk !!!!

  38. Black Lion says:

More born in Kenya nonsense….From our buddy John Charlton over at the Post and Fail site….

(Apr. 11, 2010) — A member of the Kenyan Parliament has stated in a meeting of that body on March 25, 2010 that Barack Obama was born in Kenya.

The statement, which discussed the concept of “devolution,” or ethnic inclusion, reads: “If America was living in a situation where they feared ethnicity and did not see itself as a multiparty state or nation, how could a young man born here in Kenya, who is not even a native American, become the President of America?” A screenshot of page 31 of the Minutes where the statement appears is below.”

And of course here is the appeal for sedition and treason by the Post and Fail….

“But where is the rest of the military? What is Admiral Mullen doing, and how is he upholding his oath to the Constitution?

Where are the members of what used to be the finest fighting force in the world? Why will they not come forward and demand Obama’s documentation? Do they really think that “we the people” are going to sit by and watch as our Constitution has been violated in the most egregious fashion by the biggest political heist in U.S. history? Do the Joint Chiefs sit in their offices in comfortable chairs, collecting handsome paychecks and benefits, while the rest of us are made to suffer under a usurper, a tyrant, and a foreigner? Do they not care that they and their subordinates are taking the orders of an imposter, a foreigner, exactly the thing that Alexander Hamilton warned us against?

This has gone beyond political. It has gone beyond “He said he was born in Hawaii.” It has gone beyond, “I didn’t know.” The evidence that Obama is a foreigner without any claim to the presidency is overwhelming. Now it’s time to make the top brass do its job. For if they have become just like the politicians and will not take action to remove a usurper, they will also need to be replaced.”

Very patriotc….THe birthers would rather believe a statement from some so called politican in Kenya but refuse to believe an official statement by the Director of Vital Statistics for the state of Hawaii. Because they want to believe the worst, we can see it is not about the “truth”. In other words Dr. Fukino’s statement, made by an American is considered suspect but an unverified statement supposedly made by a Kenyan official is true. Anyone else see the hypocrisy?

Did you all read in the news that yesterday the putative President slipped away from his press pool for a mysterious two hours. Allegedly he was off to watch his daughter play soccer. I wonder if this is a cover story and Obama was off having a top meeting with some powers to be in Congress and the Supreme Court about this news that surfaced today from Kenya. And of course Obama would not want the press to know who he was meeting with all of a sudden. Maybe Obama has received the news that he is going to have to resign. Wouldn’t that be great news and a great day for America after living through the last two years of lies and deceit from Obama and this Congress.

It is looking continually now like more and more citizens are becoming aware that we have not an Executive-In-Charge but a Bamboozler-In-Charge who likes the perquisites of the job, believes it somehow “owed” to him while his actual home country speaks of him in connection with the dual citizenship that the Kenyan Constitution allows.

As for being the US CIC, all that term seems to mean is an abbreviation of USurper and also Chief IslamoCommunist,

The Kenyan National Assembly seems to have it right even if neither house of the US Congress or neither political party or the MainStream Media give a fig!!

Some of us, however, DO!!!!! … and in fact a lot MORE than a fig!

  40. SFJeff says:

Well put G. I missed this discourse earlier, but I agree with you.

If Truth came here with honest, less inflamatory rhetoric, I would pay more attention to him. But his rant is always the same- anyone who thinks anything decent of Obama is a Leftie. In Truth’s world there is the Right and there is the Left/Wrong/Obama, and the Right is always right and the left is always wrong.

You want an honest discussion of his policies fine. Calling for his destruction- not so much so. And yes, I felt the same way when Leftie whacko’s were hoping Bush would die or fail. A failed Presidency is bad for the country.
