Joe Arpaio: Is it payoff time?

Our little Cold Case Posse has turned into a moneymaking scheme for WorldNetDaily and possibly for Joe Arpaio who wrote the introduction to a new book on the Arizona investigation, titled A Question of Eligibility: A Law Enforcement Investigation Into Barack Obama’s Birth Certificate And His Eligibility To Be President. It’s only $9.99 according to CBS News. The release of this book ONE DAY after Sheriff Arpaio’s announcement of his finding to the public indicates a close behind-the-scenes cooperation between Arpaio and publisher WorldNetDaily.

I find this very unseemly and wholly unlike anything remotely related to professional law enforcement. I think it’s time for Joe, and Rush, and Richard [Cebull] to quietly retire and take a long ocean voyage, far away from the United States.

I wouldn’t be surprise if Joe was already planning on retiring, and this is part of his pension planning.

If you’re not running for re-election, who cares how you look to the public?

  2. Paul Pieniezny says:

In 2007, Arpaio told CNN that he was proud that people compared him to the KKK.

Friday’s edition of the Flemish newspaper De Morgen had an article on Arthur Jones, birfer cum Holocaust Denier and Republican candidste AND an article about Judge Cebull. The Montana Dog Judge got a column five inch high, but Jones got one of twelve inches, which is two more than was given to Santorum giving up over Kennedy. (Hint to the decent Americans here: I know most of you don’t care what Europeans think, but the figures quoted show you what decent people elsewhere in the world consider more important)

I am going to look for Arpaio on Saturday. Unsure whether he will actually get mentioned.

  3. I agree the Corsi thing is way overboard for Arpaio. And the MOST troubling aspect of this whole CCP thing. As I pointed out in my last Internet Article:

Why would any professional law enforcement agency or a volunteer group used by them, hire a well-known opponent of the target of an investigation, to perform sensitive investigatory work???

Can you not just see a defense attorney ripping Corsi a new one on the stand??? Mr. Corsi, YOU removed those records from the file, didn’t YOU??? YOU hate Barack Obama don’t you, Mr. Corsi??? And when Corsi replies, “NO!!!“, can’t you see a defense attorney tearing one page at a time out of Obama Nation, deliberately rolling it into a ball, and cramming it straight up Corsi’s ____???

It’s one thing for a cop to write a book after the trial, as many involved in prominent cases do. But, this hasn’t even reached the stage of charges. The book deal completely blows any pretense that this is an official law enforcement investigation. It is a political PR stunt and nothing more. By Monday, no one will even remember anything about it.

    Agreed.

I’m picturing Arpaio, Cebull, and Limbaugh stuffed one inside the next, making a sort of Birther/Racist/Misogynist ‘turducken.’ The resulting glob would be so repulsive the public would insist that it be disposed of at sea, and luckily so fat it would remain afloat, enabling a nice bout of Naval target practice.

Note to Richard Cebull: Tie that dog you sent the e-mail about, to the roof of your car and drive to Mexico, where George Romney was born to a man who kept concubines polygamist.

    Then retire there. Thank you.

George Romney presidential campaign, 1968: “Questions were occasionally asked about Romney’s eligibility to run for President due to his birth in Mexico…During the campaign, Romney was generally considered a viable and legal candidate for United States president. He departed the race before the matter could be more definitively resolved, although the preponderance of opinion since then has been that he was eligible.”

Oh yeah, he was white. Never mind.

Mitt Romney, Boris Yeltsin and a dog walk into a bar.

The bartender says, “What’ll you have?”

    Romney says, “I’m a Mormon. I don’t drink alcohol or coffee. I’ll have a Vernor’s.”

Yeltsin says, “I’ll have a Black Russian.”

The dog says, “After those 12 sinking hours, I’ll have grain alcohol, and throw some cold water on that pompous ass wearing blue jeans.”

  9. richCares says:

talk about pay offs, Sheriff Joe called Corsi after seeing the negative news on his investigation “hey you told they would love it now people are making fun of me” so Corsi did what he did to Trump, accuse Joe of being an Obama plant Joe said “Move over Trump, make room for me”

  10. GratKim says:

Sheriff Arpaio (the harp maker in Italian). Arpaio the harp maker epitomizes all the filth upon which the birther castle is founded: a declared NAZI sympathyzer, a man who has no problems comparing himself to the KKK, a man under federal investigation for threatening in perfect mafioso style his political opponents. All the attention he know gets is what he was hoping for. Any attack on him for racial profiling, making phony criminal investigations onto political enemies, will now have to face hoards of prominent birthers denouncing Obama cover ups of certificate-gate. We are playing with fire here.
We must stop legitimizing this scum on the grounds of having a legal debate with them over the interpretation of NBC. This is not their goal, their goal is not procedural, their goal is POLITICAL: building fair ground for the rise of AMERICAN FASCISM. The birther movement is coalescing Nazis, Mussolini nostalgics, Russian Xenophobics, the KKK, Southern Racists, Lebanese Phalangisits with the pretext of saving us from usurpation. The pretext is only a pretext, the goal is the coalition. And, unfortunately, it is being reached. I am more than certain that this entire hysteria was started to awaken a sleeping monster.
I am truly disgusted from what I see on the internet: a scholarly debate between lawyers. Something is missing friends, if we do not take into account who Arpaio is, who Taitz is, whio Corsi is, who Farah is but simply debate with them over Vattel, they win.

How comfortable would you feel discussing cup cake recipes with Adolf Hitler because the holocaust is not relevant to pastry ?

In your magnificent intuition about Birthers and Fascism

you have linked Umberto Eco’s essay
Eternal Fascism: Fourteen Ways of Looking at a Blackshirt.

In the end of the essay Eco discusses America:

“Life is not that simple. Ur-Fascism can come back under the most innocent of disguises.

Our duty is to uncover it and to point our finger at any of its new instances — every day, in every part of the world.

Franklin Roosevelt’s words of November 4, 1938, are worth recalling: “If American democracy ceases to move forward as a living force, seeking day and night by peaceful means to better the lot of our citizens, fascism will grow in strength in our land.” Freedom and liberation are an unending task. 2

MCSO investigator selling ‘birther’ investigation online
    http://www.azfamily.com/news/MCSO-investigator-selling-birther-investigation-online-141270873.html

PHOENIX — The lead investigator in Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s investigation into President Obama’s birth certificate is profiting from the case.

Mike Zullo, a retired detective and volunteer Maricopa County Sheriff Posse member, is listed as the co-author of “A Question of Eligibility,” an e-book for sale on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. The book is a copy of the investigation findings presented to the press on Thursday.

    (snip)

“I’m shocked to learn about this book,” said Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox.

The press conference was basically a book release party.

  15. richCares says:

curious, how many people showed up at the dpg&pony show.

  16. MBrown says:

Waiting for the inevitable next ‘presser’ announcing new ‘explosive findings’ (held in the Sheriff’s office, of course…) Admittance will require buying a copy of that ‘book’ and standing in line so you can pay to have Hero Joe and Corsi and Zullo autograph your copy.
Then on to them releasing their warmed over affadavits by zombies we’ve all seen before, like Tim Adams, etc. etc. Nothing real,. nothing new. End the presser by demanding Obama come to MC, and submit to a strip search and show us the college transcripts.
I think this heralds the Last Hurrah of organized birtherism – the grifters see that their legal efforts are a total bust. They are selling off their final batch of snake oil to the last remaining ignorant suckers.

  17. Zachary Bravos says:

One little birther stepped up and tugged at his sleeve:

“Say it ain’t so Joe- tell ’em you were playing on the square – that you didn’t cheat like they say you did. It ain’t true is it Joe?”

“Yes kid I’m afraid it is”

The crowd of birther’s parted silently, making a path, heads down as Joe walked away.

“We’d of never thought it” said the birther.

  18. Thrifty says:

Well, except for the Birthers, who constantly re-establish that they’re not the sharpest tools in the shed. It’ll take a little time of nothing happening before they flip out and move Arpaio from “great hope” column to “another coward” column. They’ll never realize the whole press conference was a cheap book publicity stunt.

But yeah, I expect the Birthers to be riding the emotional high from this at least until the end of March.

Scientist: By Monday, no one will even remember anything about it.

  19. I have a serious question that I don’t have a good answer for, and would really like to know.

    Just how profitable is WND?

I see a lot of accusations about the Cold Case Posse and a WND financial relationship, but, is there really that much money to be made from birther donations?

I have suggested in the past that Farah’s whole “Where’s the Birth Certificate” billboard campaign was nothing but a cash flow scam until the suckers dried up. There is no way of knowing how much money he brought in compared to how much he actually spent on billboard advertising.

And the suggestion that this arrangement with WND is Sheriff Joe’s “retirement”… Again…is there really that much money involved here? Corsi’s book didn’t sell that well. And Orly is always having to beg for frequent flier miles. So, outside the ever dwindling birther donation paypal database, where’s the profitability?
