Digital analysis of birther image

Four years ago I published an image of the birther named Donald Trump, and labeled it: Donald Trump’s "presidential timber." You can see Trump making a face that looks to me like he is beginning to say a word beginning with “F” and has a finger extended.

At the time, I thought that Mr. Trump was extending his middle finger in a gesture widely associated with a word that begins with the letter “F,” but since then I have performed an analysis of the finger (a “digital” analysis if you will) and arrived at a different conclusion.

Before presenting the analysis, I present a word on terminology used in this article:

Using Google image search, I was able to locate a higher-resolution version of the Trump image at Salon.com.

Here it is clear that the middle finger is in front of the extended finger, meaning that the extended finger is the index finger. It may be that the “F” word being spoken is “Fired” as in the trademark Trump phrase, “You’re fired!”

Hey, Doc, what’s with this acknowledgement of an error? Are you just trying to make Hermitian look bad?

  2. Dave B. says:

I bet that hand never held a hoe.

  3. Bonsall Obot says:

    Dave B.:
I bet that hand never held a hoe.

Before I ever got to the comments, I said “wow, look at that pudgy pink palm that never did a day’s work in its entire life.”

Good work, Doc. And I think a closer analysis of the notorious photo of AZ Governor Brewer, said too loudly by RWNJ’s to be wagging her finger in Obama’s face at the airport, would yield a milder characterization if one understood what the shape of the shadow of her hand on his jacket means about the image projection we get from the camera angle. Actually, her pointing hand was respectfully enough, well to the right side of his head. She herself later said the gesture was, in effect, superfluous gesticulation, and said it was commonly her habit when talking to people.

The right wingers wanted to pump up the incident as encouragement for others to show disrespect for the President. They were bleating, “See? He deserves it, he’s gettin’ it, and he TAKES IT!

Anyway, the picture is not difficult to interpret more correctly, if one is guided by some experience with the projection techniques of pretty basic Descriptive geometry.

He’s not going to Merian Cooper his way out of it when the Reds come for him.

Bonsall Obot: Before I ever got to the comments, I said “wow, look at that pudgy pink palm that never did a day’s work in its entire life.”

I’ll be happy to do an analysis of Trump too…and it won’t take long.

Donald Trump…the Don Rickels of the Republican Party.

  7. Curious George says:

    Hmmmm.
Arpaio points his index finger at you with a glare,
and Trump points his index finger in the air.

Curious George: Arpaio points his index finger at you with a glare,
and Trump points his index finger in the air.

  9. RanTalbott says:

Jim: the Don Rickels of the Republican Party.

It’d be nice if it were true, but the huge difference is that it was clearly understood that Rickels never intended what he said to be taken seriously. Or almost never: there were probably a few cases where he really meant to insult someone he was lampooning.

Trump is more like the nasty old fart pontificating in a bar, or around the cracker barrel in a country store.

  10. Woodrowfan says:

Dave B.: I bet that hand never held a hoe.

Depends on how you spell “hoe”

That facial expression screams “I’m firing off a torpedo, right now! In my pants. I don’t care who knows!”

Now a birther, or other conspiracy nut, would scream that the photo is a fake/composite, due to the orangeness of The Dolan’s head vs the pinkness of his hand, and how there is something “off looking” about the shadows behind him.
