A promise can be either a pledge or a prediction. Since near the beginning of the birther movement, its proponents have made statements that express certainty that a certain event will happen. The time of some of these events, ones about the “judgment of history” cannot be verified now; but others can be tested.

Birthers have made one self-fulfilling prophecy: “this is not going away,” and that may be about the only one that’s proven true. Here are some that have not:
