Stupid email

I got this really stupid email today. Normally I try to stay clear of policy issues, and I will do this here, only pointing that the comment is a crock.

ON “ABC-TV” Monday October 12, 2009
DURING THE “NETWORK SPECIAL ON HEALTH CARE”….  OBAMA WAS ASKED: “MR PRESIDENT WILL YOU AND YOUR FAMILY GIVE UP YOUR CURRENT HEALTH CARE PROGRAM AND JOIN THE NEW ‘UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE PROGRAM’ THAT THE REST OF US WILL BE ON ??? ?” THERE WAS A STONEY SILENCE AS OBAMA IGNORED THE QUESTION AND CHOSE NOT TO ANSWER IT !!!

There was no reference and no video to look up, but one can see on the face of it that it’s a fake. The first mistake is the use of “program” instead of “plan.” There is no “universal health care program” in the Health Care Reform Act. It continues the employer-financed care that most people have, including President Obama and Congress. It provides other options for those who do not have insurance, but it doesn’t mean a change in plans for people that already have insurance.

Before publishing this, I checked around to be doubly sure. FactCheck.org was all over it last August,  and I found it debunked on snopes.com and Politifact.com. I may have to rename my site: Obama Conspiracy Theories and Apocryphal Quotes.

By the way, I replied to the sender with documentation on it being debunked and did I get an apology? Did I get one hint of remorse from the person who sent this? Yes! I did get a kind note back saying he should have checked first.

HOPE, do you believe it? There is HOPE!

I’ve turned off comments on this article cause I really don’t want to talk about health care policy on this blog.
