You remember the “grandmother tape,” the edited recording that kick-started the birther movement? The fellow on the US end of the call was street preacher and Anabaptist Bishop Ron McRae. McRae has now joined the ranks of the forensic document analysts in a paper titled Obama’s Hawaii Certificate, courtesy of the ObamaCrimes web site.
McRae’s thesis is that Obama’s long-form birth certificate was a clumsy copy made from the Nordyke Certificate. Never mind that Hawaii Department of Health Director Fuddy supervised the creation of the form and former Director Fukino has stated in writing and on camera that Obama was born in Hawaii.
No Ron, your theory is wrong, and invoking God just makes you more reprehensible.

I am considering a policy of ignoring crank theories from now on, and not wasting the time necessary to debunk them. Obama was born in Hawaii; get over it already.
The game has changed (over). To move the birther cause forward, it would now be necessary to secure a criminal conviction against Dr. Onaka for the crime of forgery. It really hasn’t sunk in for some of the birthers yet, that the facts of President Obama’s birth are known as officially as official gets. We know this has been the case for years, but now the birthers know it, at least to the extent that it has begun to slowly dawn on them that their game is over.
While I still feel that releasing the LFBC was the right move both tactically and for the country, the birthers Polariking the images is going to get old real quick. I think ignoring theories that you see as so insane that they are essentially self debunking is probably a good idea.
I don’t think that they understand just how significantly things have changed yet.
Actually, have you taken a look at the loathsome spectacle going on at Free Republic. Some collection of wasted hydrocarbons called Fred Nerks located a newspaper record of a poor girl named Virginia Sunahara who was born on August 4th, 1961 and died August 5th, 1961. They are so far gone in their madness they just leaped on it and asserted that Hawaii and Obama had overwritten her birth certificate to fake his, They were actually trying to locate her birth certificate to see if the number on Obama’s is the same.
We’re talking people who have allowed their hatred of Obama to abase them in ways no one else could.
I’m so looking forward to seeing what the politicians who kowtowed to the birthers are going to do next.
They can’t just go back to playing up to the birthers by suggesting that they’d release their certificates if they run, or claiming that the President could end all the controversy if he’d just release the thing. He released it. It didn’t end and the birthers don’t believe it.
Now they have to either make the birthers piping mad or wallow even deeper into the crazy and sink any chance of being taken seriously on a national scale by a wider audience.
I think that pretty much all of them will choose to disavow the birthers (Trump is showing that everyone sees through the affirmative action dog whistle like a bad comb-over…). I expect this to make the birthers squawk louder and turn off more independents.
This is going to be getting more out of hand because they stupidly (or cynically) moved the image of the original plain background to a green “security” background. Real experts can tell that the “layering” that resulted might be innocent. But the average person is going to look at what was released and say “that looks fake.”
Who ever decided to move the image to a green background was either very very stupid, or very very Machiavellian.
If Donald Trump has an ounce of showmanship in him (and I believe he does), he will be all over this layering business like flies on rotten meat.
Make no mistake. This is a disaster that is just beginning.

Of couse the hard core birthers are going to carry on about that until the end of time. But they’d find something to carry on about no matter what. The average person is simply going to note that Obama released his birth certificate, and it was attested to by the state of Hawaii. Sane people not obsessed with this will be satisfied.

Yes, we hope. But talking to people at a typical big IT organisation today I note that about 95% of them associate “layering” with the “creative” use of tools like photoshop, leaving only about 5% with the understanding that layering is sometimes created automatically. What I am seeing is that reasonably intelligent people who were far from being “birthers” are noticing that the “Green PDF” looks fake. So the odds are about 19 to 1 against the knowledgeable people even in a reasonably sophisticated IT environment.
Out there in the “man on the street” environment, the odds are of course much worse. So it is entirely possible that the “psycho” position may actually become the mainstream position, which would actually make the position of the Republican candidates stronger rather than more difficult.
This matter was handled badly. They should never have attempted to manipulate the appearance of the certificate.

It is basically industry standard to use security paper.
One reason is that it makes it much more difficult for anyone to make alterations to the document. Your inane idea that they somehow should have copied the original onto plain paper would only have fueled an alternative “debate” about how easy it would have been to alter the text.

Despite years of practice, the birthers have never taken losing very well (most people don’t but the birthers have taken “sore loser” to it’s illogical extreme). The President’s “April Suprise,” besides catching them, and me, off guard, has thrown them a huge vat of failure stew by puncturing their biggest talking point. As we all expected, they are taking this loss far worse than their normal reaction. Obama has shown that the birther’s “emperor” has no clothes.
I believe the sudden increase in loony theories and such will eventually die down after the initial shock wears off. The main corps will remain but the volume will reduce back to previous levels.

A statement from Barack Obama’s half-sister has at least cast a shadow of doubt on the legitimacy of the “Certificate of Live Birth” document that was released by the White House this week in an attempt to stifle questions about his eligibility, by referencing his apparent adoption by her father, Indonesian Lolo Soetoro.

On a Facebook page, Maya Soetoro-Ng wrote to a woman who had met her in Hawaii after Madelyn Dunham, the mother of Stanley Ann Dunham Obama Soetoro and grandmother to both Maya and Barack, passed away in 2008.
Soetoro-Ng was objecting to having a conversation with a critic of her half-brother, and said she had been misquoted as saying her whole family was Muslim.
She wrote, “I did not say my brother was a Muslim. I did say that I was more philosophically Buddhist. I told you that you were upsetting me. You said that you were not trying to upset me but wanted to know the truth about (Raila) Odinga (a Muslim for whom Barack Obama campaigned in the 2007 presidential race in Kenya). I told you I didn’t know who that was and had never met him. You mentioned the adoption laws of Indonesia that you saw as related to my brother’s legitimacy (you were suggesting that because my father, his stepfather, had adopted him, that my brother was no longer American) and I said that I had no idea about Indonesian adoption law.”

I’m not absolutely certain Misha, but I seem to remember coming across information on here at an earlier date which stated that Hawaii cannot publish vital record information concerning living persons, even if they had the permission of the living person concerned to do so.
All they can do is release the vital record information to the living person or someone authorised by him to receive it (as Obama’s lawyer was). It’s up to the living person to publish it.
It doesn’t seem very likely to me that even a Hawaii DOH which is bending over backwards to make a special case for Obama, would have been prepared to assume responsibility for publishing it.
If we want to consider options re what would have been better, my own ideal hypothetical would have been for the document in question to have been otained by somone un sympathetic to Obama under a court order and made public in that way, with zero involvement of the White House. That would have burst far more birther bubbles and would have enabled the president to say “look, this had absolutely nothing to do with me or my people, we’re seeing if for the first time just like you”.
All Hawaiian certified birth certificates appear on that type of security paper.
There is no evidence of manipulation. What we see is exactly what we would expect to see if an authentic document was scanned with modern scannning/PDF generation software.

Sid is a shrimpy guy with a short temper who thinks he’s much tougher than he actually is. Re; The Indonesian Adoption myth. All WND would need to do to either confirm or deny that Obama was adopted in Indonesia would be to CALL THE INDONESIAN EMBASSY. But it won’t. Wonder why not?

No they were very smart. The reason they use that kind of security paper is that its very hard to cut and past something printed on it. If they had chopped and posted something new on it the lines would mismatch, and they knew this would be exposed to scrutiny by idiots and smart people alike.
The fact that they didn’t spot the optimization precess used by Scanners and adobe acrobat isnt their fault. I had no idea that Adobe did that and I’d say 99.9% of people dont either.
In any sense its easily reproducible. Just get someone to scan and then PDF a document and see the layers. Its something you can do at home. Its really easy to debunk and thats why there wont be too much legs on this.

Reason I asked was because on another forum, there’s this Republican who likes to do a lot of that “the left has nuts too!” nonsense, in place of forming cogent arguments. He’s actually a good guy, and thinks Birthers are nuts, but I wanted some ammo to use against him.

I like your process of doing proper research first, so you can provide a solid and substantiated response.
On this particular old false equivalency chestnut, don’t waste too much time searching for countless examples before responding – there is enough evidence out there of such that you should be able to put together a simple and cogent rebuttal in a short order of time.
No need for overkill. Less is more, as the examples down this road are many and nearly endless. Pick a few solid ones that are most correlative to whatever specific example that GOP poster is trying to hide behind and then throw the ball back in his court.

In the interest of scrupulous accuracy, I have to disagree. That is a copy made from the version on security paper. The contrast is set so that over most of the image the green thatched pattern does not appear. On the rolled-back section on the left, where the image is darker, you can still make out the security paper pattern.
Of course we know the document that the White House posted is authentic, because the Hawaii Department of Health says so. “On April 27, 2011 President Barack Obama posted a certified copy of his original Certificate of Live Birth.”
