Tricked out Obotmobile

So the big news around here is President Obama’s visit to Asheville, NC, tomorrow to promote American jobs. The President will speak at the Asheville Airport, and I plan to be there.

In order to attend the speech tomorrow, each person had to show up personally in Asheville today to receive a complimentary ticket. Due to another commitment I was only able to arrive at the ticket location 40 minutes after they started handing them out. This photo shows what the line looked like after they had been handing out tickets for 40 minutes, 4 servers at a time with less than 30 seconds required to get a ticket:

Asheville Line

Local TV news crews where there from Asheville (Fox) and Spartanburg (ABC). Looking at the high-res version of the picture there appear to be about 53 people not counting the press photographer in the photo.

One enterprising local printer was there selling t-shirts and bumper stickers, one of which particularly appealed to me, so I shelled out the $2 for it. Tomorrow’s trip to Asheville seemed the perfect opportunity to put this sticker on the car along with my Obama 2012 sticker that’s been sitting around for ages.

ObotMobile

I’ll be wearing my Obama “Born in the USA” t-shirt and really feeling good about being a progressive for once as I drive my multiple-occupancy hybrid vehicle towards Asheville for my first glimpse of a United States President – no matter what the birthers say.

I hope you have a great time, Doc! The closest I’ve ever gotten to see a President (or someone with a plausible chance of becoming President) was when I shook Bobby Kennedy’s hand in 1964.

  2. Asheville is a center for arts and culture in western North Carolina. The Brevard Music center is in nearby Brevard, NC. Obama won North Carolina over John McCain in 2008 by a narrow margin of 49.9% to 49.5%. However, in Buncombe County (where Asheville is the principal city) the margin was a wider 56.7% to 46.2%.

Asheville is a GREAT little town. Lived in Charlotte and G’boro for my “formative” years, and Asheville was where we would get away to to feel like we weren’t living in a cultural desert.

Oh, and I saw Obama here in Jersey at Giants’ Stadium, with Bobby Deniro and Caroline Kennedy, but that was when he was still running. I’d love to see him up close and personal again.

  5. Keith says:

I shook Lyndon Johnson’s hand a month after he was sworn in on AF1.

I was in the Tucson Boys Chorus and we were singing at the National Tree Lighting ceremony.

I was actually more impressed with the ride on the subway between the Capitol Building and the Executive Office Building with Stewart Udall to be honest. But what do I know.

  6. Keith says:

Keith: I shook Lyndon Johnson’s hand a month after he was sworn in on AF1.

That reads a tad ambiguous. I was not on AF1. I was on the mall, on the stage where the Tree Lighting Ceremony was taking place.

Johnson was sworn in on AF1 a month before this took place.

I need to hunt down a “Critical Thinking” bumper sticker. EXCELLENT!

I’m elated to see you and so many others turn out to support Obama on his jobs tour. Americans need jobs very badly and if you and others continue to help him stay on task this time, perhaps he can continue to focus on American jobs long enough to actually help the nation.

Glad to see so many supporting his efforts, perhaps it will help him retain his focus.

Wonder if he has ever been tested for ADD?

He’s been focused on jobs for quite a while now Sally, who claimed you weren’t coming back, have you been paying attention? Maybe you can tell us when the Republicans might actually focus on job instead of trashing the economy as a political tool.

Since the Republicans in the Senate have not once, but twice refused to even allowed the jobs bill to be debated, have you contacted your Senators to demand they allow this critically important bill to at least be debated? Or are you more worried aboout who the President’s Daddy was?

And here is what Americans think when asked:

“Do you approve or disapprove of the way the Republicans in Congress are handling their job?”

Someone should tell Boehner to sober up and actually do the job for which he was elected.

Or would that just make him start sobbing again?

That’s a serious disorder. How long have you been a medical professional?

Are you board certified in psychiatry and neurology?
