Wanna buy an SSN?

While Orly Taitz pushes her silly allegations that Barack Obama stole the social-security number of a single unidentified Connecticut man born in 1890 and who got his card at age 87 (as if such a person even exists), some foreign hacker has stolen 3.6 million social-security numbers from the South Carolina Department of Revenue’s database, under the watch of Republican Governor Nikki Haley, one of the largest security breeches in the nation’s history. The got 387,000 credit and debit card numbers too.

This is the second major breach of confidential information in South Carolina under the Haley administration. 325,000 people’s information was compromised by a break-in at the State Department of Consumer Affairs last year and information from 239,000 Medicare and Medicaid recipients was stolen last April.

I’ve never used a credit card with the SCDOR, but there’s a very good chance I got my SSN stolen.

Surprisingly, it was the Secret Service, not the state agency that detected the intrusion, notifying State Officials on October 10. The State waited until this past Friday to inform the victims. Haley should resign.

  1. Bob says:

3.6 million, 40lb, newborn Kenyans will soon be getting American SSNs and start learning the Alinsky method! Start placing their birth announcements in your local papers (this will come in handy 35 years from now).

Today, Orly’s website seems to be down. I get the message: “Error establishing a database connection.”

Orly has claimed that Michelle Obama is personally monitoring and tampering with her website — the evidence being that traffic to her website decreased the day the Obamas went on vacation.

  2. Yeah, I’m just writing about Orly’s site being down.

  3. Bernard says:

I was unaware that Michelle Obama was a computer genius.

The story of Obama purportedly using the SSN of some (by now deceased) individual, born in 1890 who somehow managed without an SSN until 1977 — by which date you’d think young Obama would have had his own SSN — remarkable because of such detail about the dates but still unable to provide a name — goes back to some electronic fishing expeditions. In 2009 or 2010 some self-styled investigators used subscription computer databanks of names/addresses/SSNs to poke up EVERY sort of name and permutation of names that they could for the President. They used his mother’s name (including Stanley and Dunham), the names Barack and Barry, the name of his mother’s second husband (including misspellings of that name), and initials. They got a ton of false hits, but seemed incapable of admitting any of them were false. Even hits on a “Stanley Dunham” which were identified as a male were treated as good evidence.

These databases included utility company accounts for rental property – sometimes using the tenants’ names but the landlord’s SSN and similar poor connections between name and SSN. Anyway, they announced the conclusion that the President had used, over the years, a bundle of SSNs and lived in addresses in states he probably never visited before he ran for President.

What is, of course, very possible is that the Social Security Administration, on its own initiative or requested by the White House/Secret Service, deliberately retired the President’s former SSN number and issued him a new (and very secret) SSN number when he took office, to prevent all sorts of chicanery. There is a very real Soc.Sec. procedure for changing SSNs in instances of identity theft or similar problems.

  4. The Magic M says:

Bob: 3.6 million, 40lb, newborn Kenyans will soon be getting American SSNs

That will quadruple decuple*/** the Hawaiian population! I wonder how they will cope.

    * Yes, that word exists.
** I initially forgot the parents will move there as well.

  5. If the testimony of Linda Jordan can be trusted, the old “042” number is no longer active.

The birthers contend that the President uses a social-security number issued to a man born in 1890 AND that the social-security number that the President uses was never issued.

    Go figure.

Bernard: There is a very real Soc.Sec. procedure for changing SSNs in instances of identity theft or similar problems.

I recall that some of the addresses Orly’s investigators came up with were obviously fake addresses. One was a California address on “Mickey Mouse Avenue,” a street which does not exist (except perhaps inside Disneyland). The investigators (in particular Susan Daniels) were utterly incapable of separating the wheat from the chaff when they ran their database searches.

This is why she should resign:

    Is Nikki a Christian?

Truth: In Nikki’s words: “My faith in Christ has a profound impact on my daily life and I look to Him for guidance with every decision I make. God has blessed my family in so many ways and my faith in the Lord gives me great strength on a daily basis. Being a Christian is not about words, but about living for Christ every day.”
