  1. I’m making a change in the blog’s convention for updated articles. I have stopped adding “(Updated)” to the title of articles that have been updated. Now, I will make an announcement of the update in comments, and include the updated material in the comment where practical. I also finished removing update notes from prior article titles.

  5. I am changing formatting on the blog: the names of web sites and publications will no longer be italicized.

I’ve also started experimenting with the use of italics to denote written quotations. The blockquotes have always been italicized by default. One convention is to use quotation marks for spoken quotations, italics for written ones.

I suppose I should have adopted a style guide at the start, sigh.

I had a listen very juicy parts here. Mike Volin talks about next steps wherein he mentions that Arpaio will be releasing Universe Shattering information in March. I guess he just forgot what day it was or is using it on repeat. The host was making fun of Volin and his birther compadres and Volin didn’t even get it.

The part that did it for me: Volin says he doesn’t believe Ann Dunham is the mother of the child that either she adopted a baby overseas or someone left a colored baby on her doorstep. The reason is that “blacks and whites in 1961 didn’t mix”. I think we got his motivation.

  7. gorefan says:

Dr. Kenneth Noisewater: Mike Volin talks about next steps

I listen to it. I got a sense of desperation from Volin. Almost like he knows there isn’t going to be any shattering of anything much less universes. The line where he said that he has congressmen that are all lined up but are waiting for the new information before they act, sounds way too much like a page from the Gallups/Zullo playbook. He might as well have said that he is in contact with VIPs who can move this forward.

Karl Gall Oops!: “We’re back, Listeners, and Mike Zoo Low will BE here shortly to UPDATE us all on EXACTLY WHEN the UNIVERSE-SHATTERING CCP investigation announcement won’t be made, and he really wants to show us the tremendous trophy he gave himself for finally investigating his way out of a phone booth, but first Mike Violin is here to connect us with V.I.P.’s who, once the big reveal occurs, can trigger a FULL BLOWN CONGRESSIONAL INVESTIGATION of Obama’s Birth Certificate, personal identification, and dirty underwear. Welcome, Mike Violin!”

Mike Violin (surrounded by snoring sounds): “Thanks, Karl! Frankly, our Sheriff’s Kit has been a complete bust, moving no member of Congress to pursue any of its accusations. So I’m doubling down today and delivering the same information in the same format to all of the traitors who ignored it the first time except I changed the title page to, Congressional Restroom Attendant’s Kit!”

Karl Gall Oops!:”Wow! Wow! And these – if I remember right – WELL-GROOMED attendants – ARE the movers and shakers in Congress these days, right Mike Violin? This is exciting!”

Mike Violin: “Yes! But we aren’t putting all of our eggs in one biscuit. To widen our appeal, using only a new font we’re reissuing 150,000 of the Sheriff’s Kits, but re-titling them the ‘Double-left-handed –unseparated-Siamese Twin Justice-of-the-peace Kit!”

Karl Gall Oops!:”Help us out here, Mike Violin. Pray tell, what special influence do Double-left-handed –unseparated-Siamese Twin Justices-of-the-peace, have over members of Congress, that would likely get the Obama investigation ball rolling?

Mike Violin: “THAT’s an unknown right now, Karl. But, ask me after this summer’s July 4th Million Double-left-handed –unseparated-Siamese Twin Justices-of-the-peace March on Washington! ”

Mike Zoo Low (stumbling into the studio and impaling his mouth immediately on a mango flavored Pee Pee Summons Studio microphone):”July 4th? Ouch! Okay, that conflicts with our big CCP announcement, so we’ll just put that HUGE evidence reveal off for another three years.

Karl Gall Oops!:”WOW! Listeners, and particularly, naysayers, you just heard the latest update on the CCP Universe-shattering announcement RIGHT HERE! Not tomorrow or the next day or next week or next month or next year or ten years from now or in another century! No! Right now! You JUST heard SECONDS AGO about the additional, ALL NEW 3 year postponement of the results of the CCP ingestivation! AND you heard it here first AS PROMISED! How’s that for honesty? And to those listeners who haven’t donated money to the cause, honesty like that doesn’t come cheap, am I right about that Mike Zoo Low?

  12. Andrew Vrba, PmG says:

Birther logic is an astounding thing to behold.
This is the birther train of thought: Obama “silences” anyone who is a threat to him. Birthers think themselves a threat to Obama, as there is a “We got him this time!” on a daily basis.

Now, if Obama was indeed “out to get” anyone who was a “threat” to him, and “doesn’t care who knows it” why aren’t the birthers asking themselves why they aren’t dropping like flies?

I mean, if that were the case, shouldn’t birther all-stars like Falcon be having “accidents” right and left? 😉

  13. The Magic M says:

Andrew Vrba, PmG: Now, if Obama was indeed “out to get” anyone who was a “threat” to him, and “doesn’t care who knows it” why aren’t the birthers asking themselves why they aren’t dropping like flies?

That’s a common problem for conspiracy believers. Usually they “explain” it by claiming they – in contrast to other “enemies of the regime” – are so super-important that, should the conspiracy dare to dispose of them, the people would immediately be enlightened and rise up to overthrow the conspirators.

It’s a crude mix of conspiracy belief and a God complex (after all, these people believe to be the enlightened few), although birthers are a little different as they like to claim “millions”, if not the majority of the country, agree with them whereas typical conspiracy believers style themselves as the elite few who are not “sheeple”.

  14. Ah, I feel an article coming on.

My favorite is the birther meme that Obama is blackmailing most or all of the Federal bench. He was able to “force” John Roberts to vote in favor of Obamacare, yet for some reason Roberts and the other SCOTUS conservatives vote against Obama on campaign finance reform, affirmative action, etc.

Same Catch-22 as with conservatives about Syria and now Russia (first he’s “too weak” thereby allowing Putin to grab Crimea, now he’s “trying to provoke a war” by standing up against Putin grabbing more of Ukraine, next week he’ll be “too weak” again by asking for approval from Congress).

  28. So I am nearing the end of McGinniss’ Palin book, The Rogue. He doesn’t say he believes that Trig is not Palin’s child, and he pretty much concludes the the baby was not Bristol’s. He still had questions. Of course, he didn’t know about the sources that Salon.com uncovered a year after his book was written. He probably could have dug deeper into the question. He did conclude, and I agree, that Palin acted recklessly in making a 10-hour trip at the end of a high-risk pregnancy and giving birth prematurely at a hospital without a NICU.

Comparing the Salon story with The Rogue is a good exercise in seeing the same events from two entirely different points of view, providing a cautionary tale for anyone who approaches controversial narratives.

Another point about Trig’s birth is noteworthy. While McGinniss’ book contains nothing about the selection process of Palin for Republican vice-presidential candidate, he does say that the birth of Trig was a major consideration in Palin’s selection. According to a very authoritative book on the 2008 election, Game Change, this wasn’t a factor.

One other controversial issue is who was given “a pass” by the press in the 2008 election. Certainly Palin got one, both in the incredibly rushed and superficial vetting given Palin by the McCain campaign at the very last minute when McCain’s primary choice Joe Lieberman didn’t work out, and by the press not covering her alleged membership in the Alaska Independence Party and her certain membership in a really extreme Pentecostal sect. I’d put the negatives of her pastor right beside Obama’s pastor Jeremiah Wright. Some of the things Palin did as Mayor of Wasilla and Governor of Alaska could well have gotten her impeached if they had been done as Vice President. Hillary Clinton got a pass in 2008, and I think Obama got one to some extent as well.

But just so we know the kind of great American patriot Klaymann wants to help out, here’s an excerpt from the NYT:

“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro,” he said. Mr. Bundy recalled driving past a public-housing project in North Las Vegas, “and in front of that government house the door was usually open and the older people and the kids — and there is always at least a half a dozen people sitting on the porch — they didn’t have nothing to do. They didn’t have nothing for their kids to do. They didn’t have nothing for their young girls to do.

“And because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do?” he asked. “They abort their young children, they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”

I guess I better had not mentioned this sad story here – the young (dead) man was on a pilgrimage to the cross as I read in austrian papers.

But it is nearly funny that the late Pope John Paul II himself believed that the Virgin Mary saved miraculously his life in an attempted assassination:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_John_Paul_II_assassination_attempt
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Secrets_of_F%C3%A1tima

Well, if she protected him, she did a poor job: The Pope, shot several times, barely survived, two bystanders hurt. She could have done better. And she or the Saint John Paul II could easily have spared that poor young man ….

But of course it’s Pres. Obama’s fault

The European: But it is nearly funny that the late Pope John Paul II himself believed that the Virgin Mary saved miraculously his life in an attempted assassination

Not uncommon. German right-wingers (those who deny the Holocaust) maintain that the concentration camps meant “good meals, clean bodies and productive work for the Jews”.

Then again when I say “German right-wingers” in this context, I don’t mean mainstream party politicians but Neo-Nazi scum.

Back to serious stuff: KKKLayman, the “Fondler”:

“The Bundy family sent word late Wednesday that nationally known conservative public interest attorney Larry Klayman would be at the ranch the next day to discuss a legal response to the roundup and speak to reporters.

Then the New York Times story broke, derailing Bundy’s plans to “announce to the world” who deserved to be hauled into court over the failed BLM operation.

When asked about Klayman at the press conference, Bundy and his son, Ryan, both acted like they didn’t know about the previous night’s announcement. They said they have received numerous offers of help from lawyers, but they aren’t being represented by anyone because Bundy prefers to handle such things himself.

Bundy said he has no legal action planned.

Klayman never made an appearance and could not be reached for comment.”

  55. While not especially relevant to the general argument here, the Jericho story is probably not historical. Based on archaeological dating of the ruins of Jericho, it was destroyed long before the Israelites arrived on the scene and found the ruined wall.

The Bible shows evidence of the same nasty anti-immigrant bigotry that we see today, but it also contains arguments against that view, such as the book of Ruth where an immigrant became the ancestor of King David.

Arthur: The notion that African Americans were better off under slavery is an notion that conservatives have been advocating for years:

The theme is quite old. In the olden days, when I was a lad in school, we discussed the idea that the European peasants were better off under serfdom. If a bunch of hormone drenched, smart-alecky, know-it-all ninth graders can figure out what a bigoted point of view that is, grown-ups with some actual experience of the world should be able to link the two views.

If this guy Bundy thinks slavery was so darn beneficial, why doesn’t he sell his ass to someone and stop promoting the idea that no one can tell him what to do.

Only those desirous of owning slaves (or serfs, if you prefer) think it is a reasonable proposition. As the American oligarchy entrenches itself more and more, there are going to be more and more pressure to give up all pretense to personal freedom for the masses and return to a serf economy. The oligarchs have the middle class on a downward spiral and their quaintly titled ‘libertarian’ propaganda is being subtly (or not so subtly in some cases) inveigled into the ears of the population. It won’t be long before people start thinking that they are better off as serfs. I just wonder what they will call it so it doesn’t sound like ‘serf’ or ‘slave’. ‘Proles’ perhaps?

obama’s statement in malaysia – let the conspiracies begin/continue

Many of you know this part of the world has special meaning for me.

I was born in Hawaii, right in the middle of the Pacific. I lived in Indonesia as a boy. (Applause.)

Hey! There’s the Indonesian contingent. (Applause.)

Yes, that’s where they’re from. My sister, Maya, was born in Jakarta.

She’s married to a man whose parents were born here — my brother-in-law’s father in Sandakan, and his mom in Kudat. (Applause.)

And my mother spent years working in the villages of Southeast Asia, helping women buy sewing machines or gain an education so that they could better earn a living.

And as I mentioned last night to His Majesty the King, and the Prime Minister, I’m very grateful for the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia for hosting an exhibit that showcased some of my mother’s batik collection, because it meant a lot to her and it’s part of the connection that I felt and I continue to feel to this region.

So the Asia Pacific, with its rich cultures and beautiful traditions and vibrant society — that’s all part of who I am. It helped shape how I see the world. And it’s also helped to shape my approach as President.

    [….]

One program that we’re proud of here in Malaysia is the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program. (Applause.) Hey, there we go. (Laughter.) Over the past two years, nearly 200 Americans have come here, and they haven’t just taught English — they’ve made lifelong friendships with their students and their communities.

One of the reasons that the Germans called the “concentration camps,” was itself a bit of Propaganda. They alluded to the camps set up by the British in the Boer war. After the first 6 months where the British treatment of the Boers in the camps created an international outcry, the camp condition did indeed become very good, and the Boer Commandos and amy actually sent their women and children to the camps as they would be better taken care of than they would be on the run.

So “concentration camps” actually had a good reputation up until the Nazi atrocities were confirmed.

Interesting bit of history moment for the day.

Ironically, though, I’ve been known to use it, myself: when the RWNJs make ridiculous claims about how the cartels “have turned the border region into a violent third-world hellhole”, I sometimes point out that I can see Mexico from my front porch, and the area where I live, despite containing two of the busiest corridors for drug and human trafficking, has one of the lowest violent crime rates in the country.

The birthers refuse to believe how the Supreme Court works, no matter how many times they are told.

I remember back in 2008 when the first birther lawsuit went to the Supreme Court (Berg v. Obama), the court docket showed that a response was due on December 1. The birthers were all excited because they believed that Obama was going to have to produce his birth certificate on December 1. Of course, what actually happened is that the respondents waived their right to respond and the petition was denied.

Klayman’s client, Vincent Forras, is a controversial figure who has made a career of supposedly being a damaged 9/11 first responder.

Forras was a member of the South Salem, N.Y. Volunteer Fire Department. South Salem is approximately 60 miles north of Ground Zero, and its fire department was not asked to come to Manhattan. Forras claims that he went there on his own, that he remained there for weeks, that at one point he was buried under rubble for two hours, etc. His claims have been disputed by other firefighters.

He subsequently started a foundation called Gear Up, which supposedly was going to provide fire fighting equipment for poor countries and was supposedly going to support injured 9/11 first responders in unspecified ways.

How Forras got hooked up with Klayman is a mystery to me, In the New York lawsuit, which was dismissed, the court remarked that the plaintiff’s claims were “poorly pleaded” by Klayman.

Forras now has initiated litigation against The Village Voice and other defendants for defamation. is is one of The Village Voice pieces which he objects to. Klayman is not representing Forras in the new lawsuit.

Speaking of Larry Klayman: The government filed a scathing opposition to Klayman’s motion for class certification in his NSA lawsuit. http://www.scribd.com/doc/221225015/Klayman-v-Obama-DCD-III-14-cv-00092-12

They point out that his motion fails for a variety of reasons, but they dedicate 9 pages to their contention that Klayman is not qualified to be the lawyer for the proposed class because of his long history of misbehavior. And even with 9 pages, they left out a lot of stuff. For example, there is nothing in there about his misbehavior during his Ohio custody dispute, and the judge in that case detailed A LOT of misbehavior. There’s also nothing in there about his unethical behavior in representing former Judicial Watch clients and donors in lawsuits against Judicial Watch after he left the organization. In at least one case, a judge ordered him removed as the plaintiff’s lawyer. This issue is the basis for his 4-day DC Bar disciplinary committee hearing in June. A thorough presentation of Klayman’s unethical behavior would take up at least 50 pages.

Getting a passport requires a document that proves identity, and a document that proves citizenship. The Dept. of State has a list of acceptable documents; but I think the most usual documents to prove citizenship are a birth certificate, or a recently expired passport.

It is obvious to everyone but a birther that the HI birth certificate Obama released in 2008 would be acceptable as proof of citizenship for purposes of getting a passport. But of course we have no way of knowing exactly what document Obama used, nor — and this is so typical of birthers — nor does it make any difference.

    bovril:
The answer is that since Doc wasn’t there he can’t say, however Obama would have had to submit all the required paperwork at the time of the application which probably did include a Hawai’i BC.

  137. Rickey says:

Keith: And don’t forget that he got his passport when he was what? Ten? Whatever proof he and his mother used was convincing at the time.

And I’m sure that the only role which Obama played in getting his first passport was posing for a photo and signing some forms. His mother undoubtedly supplied the proof of birth.

As long as Obama renewed his passport every time it came up for renewal, I believe that he would never had had to personally produce a birth certificate.

  138. Keith says:

    Dr. Conspiracy:
Age 6 (possibly on his mother’s passport, but the same requirements).

I meant his own personal one when he went back to Hawai’i unaccompanied.

  139. gorefan says:

Keith: I meant his own personal one when he went back to Hawai’i unaccompanied.

He went back in 1968 around Christmas. I believe the mother’s passport renewal with the “Soebarkah” notation might be when he got his own passport. But I’m not sure he would have needed his BC at that time as he was already on his mom’s passport.

  140. Crustacean says:

I’m sure I’m not the first to notice this, but I can’t find a reference to it in the archives.

For reasons I won’t bore you with, I was reading Zullo’s affidavit and noticed something I hadn’t caught before, in regards to Obama’s “forged” selective service registration:

“161. Investigators located that particular stamp set but were unsuccessful in locating a four digit 1980 date stamp insert.”

So according to Zullo’s Sworn Affidavit, that 2-digit date stamp on Obama’s SS card is just fine and dandy. Problem solved! 🙂

  141. RanTalbott says:

Crustacean: “161. Investigators located that particular stamp set but were unsuccessful in locating a four digit 1980 date stamp insert.”

That may be the most idiotic of all the birther conspiracy theories: I’ve often pointed out that anyone can go online and order a kit to make absolutely any stamp you want for under $200. Including the expensive UV chamber for curing the polymer, which a professional forger would already have, so the actual cost would be closer to $5 for materials.

But, for this job, the forger wouldn’t even need to do that, since he would just be making a monochrome (or, at worst, grayscale) image for insertion into the replacement microfilm reel. Which could be done with any graphics program that does pixel-level editing.

But birfers always assume that everyone else is as stupid as they are, so they invented a tale of someone desperately searching ebay, and scouring flea markets, to try to replicate an antique stamp.

  142. RanTalbott says:

Well, the BR highlight from this week’s Free Dumb Friday is that “Major Media” is still involved in the Great Reveal.

  144. Dave says:

Ah, Klayman. First he says that the recent racist comments by Bundy and Sterling were only “perceived” as racism by the “mainstream media.” Then later he says their racist comments are Obama’s fault.

Got that, racists? You 1) aren’t racist at all, and 2) your racism is the fault of black people.

Guess we know who Klayman’s target audience is: racists who are pissed off about being called on their racism.

  145. Dave says:

I have an excellent suggestion for BR, but since I, like all Obots other than Doc, have been banned, I can’t post it there. So I’ll post it here.

It would be great if BR could set up an email list that would be notified when Zullo finally gets around to his Big Press Conference. I’m sure this would be popular with both birthers and anti-birthers, because it would save us all from having to keep going over to BR to read the recycled repetitive crap he keeps posting. It seems clear at this point that there isn’t going to be any more entertainment until Zullo Speaks, and that could be years from now.

I simply cannot adequately express just how much it bothers me when Klayman (and Taitz) speak about Israel and Jews and antisemitism. They are clueless, and extremely inflammatory, and are compatriots and apologists for very real anti-semites. Like Vogt, they are “experts” without expertise (or even common sense), who act like they speak for a community that they certainly don’t speak for. Pure poison.

As for Klayman’s Caucasian v.African-American rant, well, I appreciate his bald in-yer-face tell it like he sees it confession of his deep seated racist angst. Funny, but I bet his clientele doesn’t even consider Klayman to be white…. Where I come from, a guy like Klayman is a shonda for the goyim–i.e., an embarrassment.

  147. Thinker says:

Speaking of Larry Klayman, the Court of Appeals in the District of Columbia upheld the ruling in Bradlee Dean’s lawsuit against Rachel Maddow, so Dean has to pony up ~$25K to pay Maddow’s lawyers. There is a federal lawsuit over the same matter. After the inevitable motion for a rehearing is denied, I suppose that case will start up again and Dean has to once again face the prospect of paying lawyers fees–his own and Maddow’s–for an ill-advised lawsuit that his lawyer badly mishandled.

Alabama’s chief justice: Buddha didn’t create us so First Amendment only protects Christians

(excerpt) Speaking at the Pastor for Life Luncheon, which was sponsored by Pro-Life Mississippi, Chief Justice Roy Moore of the Alabama Supreme Court declared that the First Amendment only applies to Christians because “Buddha didn’t create us, Mohammed didn’t create us, it was the God of the Holy Scriptures” who created us.

“They didn’t bring the Koran over on the pilgrim ship,” he continued. “Let’s get real, let’s go back and learn our history. Let’s stop playing games.”

Well, the First says only “Congress shall make no law” about establishing a religion, not “judges shall not make asses of themselves in public”, so he’s not in violation again. Yet. But give him a little more rope: he’ll bring a whole new meaning to the term “hanging judge”.

Majority Will: “Let’s get real, let’s go back and learn our history”

I’m guessing Hizzoner didn’t “learn our history” enough to know that, bein’ a Baptist (probably, I don’t actually know) “heretic” ‘n all, those pilgrims might well have executed him (bringing yet another meaning to “hanging judge”).

You’re welcome. P.S. I think I’d have to kill myself before becoming as “perfect” as Ann Coulter, Judge Moore, et al. Whenever I think of Coulter, I think of the town she grew up in–New Canaan, Connecticut. When I was a kid in 1966, my family looked to move from NY to the Conn. suburbs, and New Canaan was a town we had to skip over in our search for a home–they had a “gentlemen’s agreement” not to sell to anyone descended from the real Land of Canaan…. Its the same area and gentlemen’s agreement that Gregory Peck made famous in the movie.
