Trump birthers

I came across an article this evening from April of 2011 by Nate Silver at FiveThirtyEight.com titled, “Poll Finds Most Americans Uncertain of Trump’s Birthplace.” As Silver hastens to point out, it’s not a joke.

According to the survey, just 43 percent of Americans believe that Mr. Trump was definitely born in the United States. Another 20 percent believe that he was probably born here. Some 7 percent of respondents told Gallup that Mr. Trump was probably or definitely born in another country, while 30 percent were uncertain.

The poll is worth a chuckle anyway, and perhaps provides some validation of karma, but what I found interesting is what Silver said about it:

But seriously: I’m not ready to believe that all of the 7 percent of Americans who said they thought Mr. Trump was born abroad — or the much larger fraction who expressed some doubts about his birthplace — were being entirely earnest with the pollsters. Instead, they were giving a stupid answer to a stupid question.

I’ve never been comfortable discounting Obama birther polling numbers, but like Silver, I also have a hard time believing them. I allow some validity to the “crazification factor” theory and I wonder if some express doubts about Obama just because they don’t like the guy. Silver tends to doubt the high numbers of Obama birthers too, and I’ll let you read his reasons for yourself.

I believe that Silver is correct. I know several people on Facebook who like to spout birther nonsense but I know that they aren’t serious about it and that they just dislike Obama.

  2. CRJ says:

Obama has never been an unlikable guy for me. I did not have a problem with Sen. Obama. ..it’s really foolish to think Obama didn’t invite us all into the Birther Party.

For heaven’s sake, whoever heard of the utter non-sense of nursing the Birther Movement for 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 before releasing a long form birth certificate and submitting in a White House Press Conference the reason you did was to “Put to rest a silly notion that’s distracting America. That WAS quite a Show!

Topping it off, let the show continue by pinpointing those who don’t put it to rest, after waiting 5 years to release it while your in the POTUS office as no better then Circus Acts and Carnival Bathers” lol

    That’s really funny!

Mayday Mayday Mayday.. 4 days later releasing the News your a War Hero that got Osama bin Laden. “That ought to make them love me huh”.

Obama’s never had a problem of being “liked”..he’s had a problem with liking himself because .. Well, you can guess.

The biggest Problem we’ve got isn’t even Obama anymore.. Its the complacent CIA that probably needs to be completely gutted and cleaned out like you’d clean a shark for turning on America. “Why did they do that?”, is harder to understand than Obama.

You don’t have passports messed with of three candidates for President, have two dead witnesses shot in the head, and drowned Loretta Fuddy without help. The corruption stinks to high heaven.. And I’m not even saying if we did know the whole story we wouldn’t be somewhat sympathetic to it. . even if racism was a card you wanted to have as your Ace. Shame on them for playing it as a divisive tactic. Shame on all of us for allowing it.

    Sympathy? I don’t think that’s being craved.

All I’m saying is, there’s gonna be a day of reckoning, that, just like I didn’t like doing 8 years in prison comes to those who did not take a Stand.

They will not like the tables turned and will not like the doors opened for them that were opened for me. Rest assured the tables will be turned.

Only 2 more months before 2016 DEFERMENTS and Obama’s exploits hit America in the face. That’s an extra 3K per employee for small businesses considered under 50 employees.

Not forgetting the facts many over 50 businesses split to get DEFERMENTS .. The pains coming BABY!

  3. Daniel says:

Boy CRJ when you decide to go on the crazy, you really commit.

  4. Pete says:

You have to admit that was sort of a mess, Cody.

I take the most important point in there to be that you ?think? ?place hope in? the idea that Mr. Obama ?and non-birthers? are going to be ?arrested? in the future?

And there’s going to be this great revelation that Obama was never eligible to be President, and his ?illegal? Presidency was aided and abetted by ?people here??

What you don’t recognize is that there is no more chance of that than there is that monkeys are going to fly out of my butt.

    Truly.

    How do I know this?

I know it not only because every single court case ever filed by birthers – more than 200 of them, I think, I can never keep count – has been thrown out of court. And I’m not talking just courts presided over by liberals or Democratic appointees. I’m talking about courts presided over by conservatives who, no doubt, would have loved for Mr. Obama to leave office.

Do you know WHY every single case, of hundreds, has been thrown out?

Two reasons: No legal basis (either a lack of standing or other legal reasons), and the second fact I’m about to announce to you.

Which is, every single claim that has ever been made by birthers turned out to be nothing but b******t.

Maybe you haven’t paid enough attention. Or, maybe you aren’t smart enough to figure it out. Or, maybe you just don’t want to believe it. Or, maybe you’re just dishonest. Some of your previous posts have caused me to think that maybe you just don’t care that much about the actual truth.

In any event… it’s all b******t. From start to finish.

The born-in-Hawaii claims. The birth-certificate-is-a-forgery claims. And the two-citizen-parents-to-be-a-natural-born-citizen claims.

They’ve all been beaten to death. They’ve been gone over again and again and again until there’s nothing left to go over. It’s all been covered 10 times before.

This isn’t speculation. I don’t just think they’re all bs. I know they’re all bs.

So none of your pathetic little fantasy, where President Obama is driven from office, or later exposed as an illegal President, and where Kevin Davidson (or anybody else here, for that matter) is hauled off to jail as a “traitor,” is EVER going to come true.

Think about that for a while, because it’s the truth.

None of your birther fantasy will EVER come true. You might as well believe that Bill Gates is going to call you up on Monday and tell you he’s sent you a check for $1 billion dollars, payable to Cody Robert Judy, for deposit only. Or that Halle Berry, Kate Upton and Kiera Knightley are going to show up on your doorstep next Wednesday and take you personally on a fun-filled VIP rocket ride to the moon.

All three of these have very close to the same chance of happening. And that chance is almost exactly equal to the odds that monkeys are going to fly out of my behind.

Or, to spell it out for you: The chances of any of that happening are, in every practical and meaningful sense, ZERO.

Any day now! Haven’t we heard the same about Obamacare for five years now?

  6. Fuddy wasn’t drowned.

CRJ: drowned Loretta Fuddy without help

    Old joke refigured for Trump:

So, according to Judy, somebody shot in the head two bodies that somehow had witnessed something, despite being already dead.

  9. Lupin says:

    CRJ:
    [insane rant]

What I don’t understand is, why can’t you just hate Obama because of his policies / actions?

Plenty of room there to disagree. (Don’t get me started.)

Why do you have to come up with a totally insane, disproved, made up and ultimately irrelevant concoction of false facts to bolster your disapproval of him?

With apologies to Godwin, I hate Hitler because he ordered the genocide of millions, not because his father was an alien lizard from Sirius or because he could turn into an owl.

You, on the other hand, are exactly the opposite.

bob: So, according to Judy, somebody shot in the head two bodies that somehow had witnessed something, despite being already dead.

    Weekend at bernies territory here.

  11. The Magic M (not logged in) says:

Lupin: I hate Hitler because he ordered the genocide of millions, not because his father was an alien lizard from Sirius or because he could turn into an owl.

… or because of claims he somehow was never eligible for chancellor or Führer to begin with.
The point is, you can hate Hitler, but Obama not being Hitler, birthers have got to rationalize why they hate him so much more than any other liberal Prez before him. The sane world knows it’s racism, so they have to make something up to account for the difference.

  12. Pete says:

Very intelligent posts by both Lupin and Magic M.

I think part of it is an insane rationalization for racism, but I don’t think it’s entirely that.

I think some of it is just normal unhinged political hatred, rechanneled. I remember President Bush being vehemently hated by some, to the point that he was portrayed as a chimpanzee, an ape, etc. I also remember some unhinged hatred of President Clinton. So it seems to me that unhinged, lunatic hatred of Presidents is “normal,” in the sense that it always occurs.

While people could get away with portraying President Bush as a monkey, portraying the current President as a chimp would subject one to charges of racism. So I think in some cases birfing is a substitute form of unhinged hatred.

I also think in some cases that a certain amount of xenophobia is involved. In other words, it’s not just that Obama’s black. I think there are birthers who would be happy enough with a black President, as long as he matched their politics and was “100% Amurrican.” Witness the fact there are at least a few going off the rails over Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Rick Santorum, Nikki Haley and even Mitt Romney.

So, I think it’s a combination of racism, normal political hatred – rechanneled so as not to appear racist – xenophobia, and just plain idiocy combined with stubbornness and arrogance.

No, instead we have comments like:

THIS IS THE STUFF OUR SCHOOLS SHOULD BE TEACHING
    THANK YOU Anna.

  16. J.D. Reed says:

Pete, birthers including Anna often confuse dual citizenship with duel citizenship. They’re virtually always wrong about the law concerning dual citizenship, and compound the mistake by referring to duel citizenship, which actually used to exist though it was much less common than dual citizenship. The way it worked , two men would agree to a prearranged time and place for a shootout.
The most famous example of this occurred in a field in Weehawken, New Jersey on July 11, 1804. The winner of this duel citizenship contest was Aaron Burr, who thereby got to keep his citizenship. The loser, Alexander Hamilton, was no longer a citizen because he was dead.

  17. Dave B. says:

The Donald Trump hospital birth certificate was resurrected as a hot topic a week or so ago on the fake news sites. They were going on about how Trump had released this A-number 1 superduper birth certificate, while Obama had just released a fake without all the required stuff on it.

The Obamacare employer mandate does not apply to small businesses which have fewer than 50 employees.
