Trump no longer a birther: Giuliani says

Has Trump thrown birthers under the bus?

Donald Trump surrogate Rudy Giuliani says Donald Trump now believes Barack Obama was born in the United States. Giuliani says:

Donald Trump believes now that (Obama) was born in the United States. I believe it. He believes it. We all believe it. It took a long time to get out.

When asked if he heard this from Trump himself, Giuliani gave a somewhat ambiguous answer, but it was reinforced by Trump’s campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, who told CNN Friday:

[Trump] believes President Obama was born here. There’s no question to me he was born in the United States.

Will Trump himself ever apologize for hijacking the national debate in 2011 with his crazy conspiracy theory? Don’t hold your breath.

So what new facts emerged to cause you to change your “mind”, Donnie boy? I hope they ask him that at the debates. In effect it’s the old cross-examination question-“Were you lying then or are you lying now?” In Trump’s case the correct answer is “Both”!

  2. Andrew Vrba, PmG says:

I wish someone would throw Trump under a bus.
I am NOT speaking figuratively. If he’s elected, his policies are gonna get people killed.

  3. Arthur B. says:

I find it amusing that Trump, the fearless tough guy, has his surrogates speak for him because he lacks the courage to give the public an answer to a simple yes/no question.

  4. Joey says:

All it takes is one reporter to ask Trump: “Rudy Giuliani has said that you are no longer questioning President Obama’s natural born citizenship; is he correct?”

  5. roadburner says:

i’m waiting for Hillary to ask him about when he will apologise to the president for his birtherism.

that will be SOOO amusing to watch!

  6. Curious George says:

Have Birthers taken note that Trump hasn’t been mentioning Birther, Sheriff Joe Arpaio in his recent speeches given in Pensacola and Phoenix? This could be a potential problem for Shurf Joe if he is convicted of perjury and other crimes related to the racial profiling case in Arizona. If Trump is elected president, I think Birthers shouldn’t expect a pardon for old Joe anytime soon, if he is convicted. And if Shurf Joe is convicted, there goes Pastor Carl Gallups’ honorary “Special Deputy” badge out the window. Poor Carl.

  7. Washington Post:

Donald Trump hasn’t questioned Barack Obama’s birthplace since way back in January.

I wish someone would tell him it’s not a matter of “belief” or “disbelief”. It’s a matter of fact. One can’t choose to “believe” or “disbelieve” in gravity — or, for that matter, in evolution or anthropogenic climate change.

WaPo is wrong. July 9, on, ironically, CNN:

That was July 9, 2015. Included in the WaPo story. So they got it right.

    W. Kevin Vicklund: That was July 9, 2015.

    Arrrggh: google screwed me again.

I usually catch those, but there’s a flaw in their date filter: because most news organizations have a “latest stories” sidebar on their story pages, google considers them “updated”, and will return them even though the story date is way outside the range you specify.

I missed it this time. Sorry.

  11. Scientist says:

Dave B.: So over on Fox, they’re saying birtherism made Trump what he is today.

They’re largely right. I am convinced he never believed a word of it, then or now. It was a way to get attention and solidify the base. Now it’s inconvenient, so it’s gone.

  12. Arthur B. says:

Scientist: That didn’t last long. Trump’s a birther again

    That didn’t last long either.

CNN: “Donald Trump’s campaign on Thursday said he believes President Barack Obama was born in the US, a major reversal from a line of attack he launched five years ago.”

Only when I see/hear “The Donald” speak the words; “I believe that President Obama was born in the state of Hawaii, in the United States of America” on August 4, 1961…. or similar words will I be convinced. Until then no surrogate, or campaign spokesperson can convince me or millions of others that Trump has given up his birther beliefs.

He lies so damn much I’ll have a hard believing him then. He may do it as a last resort to convince a few moderates he is worthy of their vote, but the man just cannot admit to ever being wrong about anything. Colin Powell spoke about Hillary Clinton’s hubris in the leaked e-mails. Donald Trump’s entire persona reeks of hubris.

I just finished reading “The Making of Donald Trump” by David Cay Johnston. It pretty much confirms that Trump is even slimier than I imagined.

God help us if he does become President.

  18. Dave B. says:

    Well, yeah, there is that.

So, is he or isn’t he? As they used to say in the old hair coloring commercial, “Only her (his) hairdresser knows for sure.” And in Trump’s case I’ll bet his hairdresser knows plenty.

  20. john says:

I wonder where Mike Zullo is? If there is a good a time to as any to come out with his so called report, it is now. Nevertheless, I agree with Trump. He done with the issue. As to his response to the following: “answer that question at the right time. I just don’t want to answer it yet”. I’m assuming that time will be the first debate. Anyway, you see Hillary Clinton is starting to get plastered in the polls. Hillary Clinton is SICK and WEAK. She has no stamina can couldn’t hardly speak for 30 minutes in North Carolina yesterday. Hillary is now try to get her confederates to stump for her and she is digging up old debunked issues to attack Trump. Hillary has no policy.

Almost Every Word of Donald Trump’s Birther Statement is a Lie

Hillary Clinton did not allege that the president was born in Kenya. Trump did not compel Obama to release his birth certificate “when others had not”—Obama had already released a copy of his birth certificate, but critics, including Trump, believed it to be a fake. So Obama released a longer birth certificate in 2011—but that release did not bring “closure” to the issue. Instead, Trump called it a forgery, citing “Israeli science,” and announced that he was sending a team of investigators to Hawaii to uncover the truth. He suggested that a Hawaiian health official who knew of the cover-up had died in suspicious circumstances.

    [….]

Other than that, though, it’s a good start.

Heard about this this morning on the way in. Should have known Doc would still be on the case and a week ahead of the story LOL

Trump still dodging, while everyone is saying on his behalf that he’s no longer a birther. What a damning endorsement.

“He used to be an idiot on this issue, but is no longer an idiot .. at least not on this issue.”

Meanwhile the idiot in question adamantly refuses to demonstrate any sort of recovery.

My other half and I were just noting last night how ridiculous the medical crap was, how no one cares about such, and the silliness of trying to use health to smear an opponent … and wondering what would replace it as the current meme.

And today it’s …. birthing. God forbid we discuss issues, let’s just slide farther down the spiral LOL

  24. RUTH KESSLER says:

Well…I am waiting with baited breath to hear the Donald say this morning that Obama is born in the U.S. I may turn blue and faint before I hear an apology. Most likely will be a bunch of double talk bs that doesn’t make anything clear.

  25. Phoenix says:

The new lie is being spun.

Even this morning, Trump surrogate or supporter, former governor Robert Ehrlich (R-Maryland), opined to Stephanie Ruhle on MSNBC this morning that he doesn’t know why we are still talking about this issue, hopefully not tomorrow, adding he “never understood why the President took so long to produce it…”

He seems so long suffering. You feel his pain. Not.

Such a burden. If only, Ehrlich implies, the President had released his birth certificate before this whole thing started. If only. We wouldn’t be in this mess if it wasn’t for a few Hillary Clinton supporters, and if the Present had released his birth certificate right from the get-go.

Except, as we know, the President released his birth certificate before birtherism became birtherism.

As DT seems about to take credit for the release of the long-form birth certificate, after not accepting the first legitimate one (and even questioning the long form after it was released), does he still think that the first one was a fraud or inadequate?

All of this is standard “I don’t know” birtherism. So let’s see in a moment how DT spins the new pretense.

P.S. I used to be “Paper” on this site. But given difficulties posting under that name after a long hiatus, which difficulties I tried to resolve with Doc but seemingly cannot, I am using the new name, Phoenix.

  30. Arthur B. says:

I’m almost afraid to mention it, but remember what Arpaio’s been saying — essentially, that he’s taking no position on where Obama was born, just that the BC is a fake. That option is still open to the Donald (as are the ones about NBCship).

Except Trump specifically did say (at least for now) that Obama was born in the US. Period. So then if the b.c. were fake it would involve something like father’s name, which is irrelevant to his eligibility. Even for the Vatellian birthers, since the named father is a foreigner, a different father would only be the same (another foreigner) or would make him 100% eligible even for them (if he were American).

As for forging a Hawaiian b.c. to disguise being born in Washington State or Kansas, or New Jersey, there is no reason for anyone to do that. OK, maybe in the case of New Jersey….
