  1. This was REALLY HARD, but this is my nomination:

    The tiny male spider
    Mates, dies. His futility,
    Like birther “research”.

However, I want at least to express my appreciation for these other excellent submissions:

    Head Researcher

    Dead leaves in Autumn
    Numbers fell ever downward.
    Spring brought long green forms.

    DJW

    For summer reading,
    You seek the certificate?
    Twelve-fifty Punchbowl.

    poutine

    The Fall campaign looms
    Barack’s birth was their focus
    Bin Laden was his.

    Paper

    Allegedly born
    in summer—claims earth is round.
    Explain the raked leaves!

    Head Researcher

    The Lawyer loses.
    Yet, the Truth is extracted.
    The Dentist laughs last!

    Bob Stanley

    Coffee beans ripen
    Obama shows his long form
    Strong and Hawaiian

  2. richCares says:

I second that nomination as I am typing on a new keyboard!

  3. The head Researcher, as Agent for the the Principle. (of Haiku)

Each maintains subtlety, and indirectness, yet relates to the topic.

    In Order:

    Dead leaves in Autumn
    Numbers fell ever downward.
    Spring brought long green forms.

(Most technically correct, with kireji. (Downward +The period) Subtle. Does not directly address topic. egs.: “Numbers”–does it refer to leaves or something else.)

    Moldovan Aethers
    Cloak Notus Africanus
    In a Hoary Rime

(“The Wasteland” of Haiku. One could spend a lifetime contemplating this and it would not be wasted. -paraphrasing “The Last Samurai”)

    Ironic Winter.
Where those who have covered up,
    End with a Bad Cough.

(Humorous Haiku contrasting the “cover up” for political advantage with the “coughing up”, which was Bad because of a layered PDF file.)

    Hot Air fogging glass
    Seeing through Transparency
    Becomes such a pane.

(Punning Haiku with all lines containing double meanings.)

The Head Researcher, as Agent for the Principal.

  4. Majority Will says:

    poutine

    this gets my vote

  6. Scientist says:

I nominate the thingy from Orly Taitz. I know, it wasn’t a haiku nor was it any good, but it’s the only birther-related contest Orly has even the slightest chance of winning, so I thought I’d help her out.

I’ve had many laughs following the Birthers, even though the serious citizens of this country knew that this shouldn’t be funny. The Birthers got what they … said … they wanted, the Long Form. Yet they’re still spinning like crazy, to the surprise of none of us who visit here.

It’s time to move on to a new phase where, unfortunately for the Birthers, our President has shown that he is a great President & worthy of our votes in 2012.

    Can I still nominate?

Alternatively, I’d vote for the Poutine Fall campaign …

  10. Paper says:

I really like haiku, and so I was working on a few. For some reason I thought the deadline was the end of May, so I missed posting at least one more. I understand we’re past the deadline, but I’ve enjoyed reading everyone’s contributions; so, I offer one more just for reading pleasure, but not the contest.

    paper

    Orly on steroids
    brags how a slick cover-up
    trumps spring’s long formed truth.

  11. Paper says:

    one more:

    Flakes fall from heaven,
fractals for all to see. So?
    Shadows know snow’s forged.

  12. Paper: one more

My apologies for shutting down the contest early. As a small consolation, I added one of your fine entries for the final voting.
