A friend forwarded the following alarming email saying that Obama has issued massive numbers of executive orders, some designed to enslave the country. Here’s the text, in which every number is totally made up:

During my lifetime, All Presidents have issued Executive Orders, for reasons that vary, some more than others. When a President issued as many as 30 Ex. Orders during a term in Office, people thought there was something Amiss.

THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION: Obama has signed 923 Executive Orders in 40 months!
What did Congress do in those 40 months? (The House – considerable. The Senate -nothing, not even a budget nor allowing any House bill to be considered.) A whole new order must prevail in Wash. DC as a result of this next election! Now look at these:
-EXECUTIVE ORDER 10990 allows the government to take over all modes of transportation and control of highways and seaports.
-EXECUTIVE ORDER 10995 allows the government to seize and control the communication media.
-EXECUTIVE ORDER 10997 allows the government to take over all electrical power, gas, petroleum, fuels and minerals.
-EXECUTIVE ORDER 10998 allows the government to take over all food resources and farms.
-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11000 allows the government to mobilize civilians into work brigades under government supervision.
-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11001 allows the government to take over all health, education and welfare functions.
-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11002 designates the registration of all persons. Postmaster General to operate a national registration
-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11003 allows the government to take over all airports and aircraft, including commercial aircraft.
-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11004 allows the Housing and Finance Authority to relocate communities, build new housing with public funds, designate areas to be abandoned, and establish new locations for populations.
-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11005 allows the government to take over railroads, inland waterways and public storage facilities.
-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11049 assigns emergency preparedness function to federal departments and agencies, consolidating 21 operative Executive Orders issued over a fifteen year period.
-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11051 specifies the responsibility of the Office of Emergency Planning and gives authorization to put all Executive Orders into effect in times of increased international tensions and economic or financial crisis.
-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11310 grants authority to the Department of Justice to enforce the plans set out in Executive Orders, to institute industrial support, to establish judicial and legislative liaison, to control all aliens, to operate penal and correctional institutions, and to advise and assist the President.
-EXECUTIVE ORDER 11921 allows the Federal Emergency Preparedness Agency to develop plans to establish control over the mechanisms of production and distribution, of energy sources, wages, salaries, credit and the flow of money in U.S. financial institution in any undefined national emergency. It also provides that when a state of emergency is declared by the President, Congress cannot review the action for six months.
Feel free to verify the “executive orders” at will… and these are just the major ones I’m sure you’ve all heard the tale of the “Frog in the Pot”… you all comfortable???
Watch Obama’s actions, not his words! By his actions he will show you where America is headed. Sounds to me like he is superceeding the Constitution of the USA … But, yet I did not find any provision in the US Constitution for such Executive Orders.
Just this week, Obama has issued a new executive order that seeks to “harmonize” U.S. economic regulations with the rest of the world. This new executive order is yet another incremental step that is pushing us closer to a North American Union and a one world economic system.
Unfortunately, most Americans have absolutely no idea what is happening. The American people need to understand that Barack Obama is constantly looking for ways to integrate the United States more deeply with the rest of the world. The globalization of the world economy has accelerated under Obama, and this latest executive order represents a fundamental change in U.S. economic policy. Now federal regulators will be required to “harmonize” their work with the international community.

Naturally as a debunker I took that challenge to heart and discovered that besides the names of the former Presidents, there not a real fact in it anywhere.
Let’s start with the number of executive orders issued. They are totally made up. All presidential orders since FDR are conveniently tabulated at the National Archives. Here’s a comparison of chain email numbers and actual numbers:

So what about those specific Obama executive orders mentioned in the email? Made up as well. The email lists orders in the range of 10990 to 11921. Executive orders are numbered sequentially. Obama executive order numbers start at 13489. The numbers listed go back to President Kennedy, and have nothing to do with what’s in the email, for example: 10994 is for The President’s Committee on Employment of the Handicapped.

Very precious of them to believe FDR could get through 13 years of very extreme history with only a handful of orders.
Also very generous of them to revive Roosevelt and enable him to serve his full 16 years.
Finally, it very instructive to compare the reality of past great Presidents (Washington, Jackson, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Roosevelt, Reagan) with the illusion of the Commie Moozlim Sosh’list Kenyun. Falsely accusing him of doing by fiat what these past greats actually did, they must think Obama is the greatest President of them all!

I’m sure that the original email is based upon a pre-email (snail mail/office Xerox) that goes back to Kennedy because most of the EO numbers cited were signed by Kennedy.

My Boss is a big GOP supporter and he used to bring things like this to my attention…till I kept debunking them all the time. Now he just keeps them to himself! hehehe.
I confronted a birther on the People in Support of Joe Arpaio page on facebook last week on this claim. When I quickly pointed out how deeply flawed his claims were he shifted a few times saying “I thought you liberals like hearing lies” He then jumped around to personal insults and other topics he could speak with no authority about. It’s never been about the birth certificate or policies it’s about what Obama represents: progress. That a black man can grow up to become president.
This is merely a 2012 implementation of the Joe McCarthy concept of issuing total BS with exact-sounding information. It worked for him with his famous “I have this this list of 205 Communists” speech, a speech almost exactly replicated earlier this year by Allen West when he accused members of the House Democratic Caucus of having Communist ties. BS always sounds a lot more plausible when coated in a veneer of exactitude.
A few weeks ago a letter in my local paper claimed that Obama is an “imperial President” because of his executive orders. The paper published my response, which pointed out that the executive order champion for the past 30 years is Reagan.
WorldNetDaily did a rather dishonest article about this chain email last week that aimed to perpetuate the myth even as it was half-heartedly debunking it. It carries the headline “Stroke of the pen. Law of the land. Kinda cool” — which was actually said by Clinton aide Paul Begala in the 1990s. Writer Bob Unruh began with a list of executive orders Obama allegedly signed, then ultimately conceded the the chain email’s number was false. Unruh then wrote that “Obama’s pace is above some other presidents,” downplaying the fact that Obama’s pace is actually below every president since FDR except for George W. Bush.
