I was pretty young when I a read a work of youth fiction in which one of the characters explained to another a spelling memory trick: “There is ‘a rat’ in ‘separate.’” This was the beginning of my life-long attention to the misspelling of that particular word, and why I noticed it tonight in a comment at US Message Board from someone named Steve_McGarrett. The comment, which I will cite below, was mentioned by Dave B. in a comment here.
Mike Zullo has been fully trained by the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office under the powers granted to Sheriff Arpaio by the Arizona Constitution. He is well qualified and has ALL the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office resouces at his disposal, including their attorneys. Also Arpaio opened up a second criminal investigation a year ago appointing two full time detectives from the department. This is why the posse hasnt asked for donations anymore in many months.The second criminal investigation is what has delayed revealing all of the new posses evidence they collected since the second press conference. Once the 2nd investigation wraps they will hold two seperate conferences announcing their findings.
Misspelling “separate” isn’t the only problem with that post, but I thought it might be useful as an indicator as to whether this Steve McGarrett person is actually Mike Zullo, or some other identifiable birther. The misspelling of “separate” seems to be a Steve McGarrett trait, appearing again from him at US Message Board last April here:
That prompted Arpaio to officially open a new second criminal case indirectly seperate from the birth certificate evidence and he appointed two full time seasoned detectives from the Maricopa County Sheriffs Office to pursue criminal leads across the country working with other law enforcement agencies. Zullo stated the press conference in Phoenix will be a international event that will reveal what they’ve uncovered and Zullo stated it will be ‘Universe Shattering’ that will affect the nation. I’ve been monitoring this case for months and I believe they have uncovered hard copy evidence of Obama’s true birth status and that he went to college as a foreigner and the players who all covered it up.
I used the Google search engine, combining various birther keywords with “seperate,” to see what happened. Here is an interesting result from Birther Report from a commenter named Joe Mannix, who is widely thought once but no longer thought by me to be Mike Zullo:
Mr. Zullo is not a liar. Hawaii had their own seperate code manual prior to becoming a state. Verna K. Lee verified she used those codes. The CCP also has in possession two Hawaiian birth certificates from 1961 that reveal that the term ‘Negro’ was used for black babies instead of the term ‘African’.

It appears that RC did not use “real” date and signature stamps and they essentially were part of the paper. I know that the CCP used a “real” date stamp to make sure that date stamp was seperate independent element and not part of the paper. As for the signature, stamp the neither the CCP or RC had Alvin Onaka’s stamp handy. But in any event, RC’s Onaka signature stamp is only partially lifted where the Obama’s BC, the entire stamp is lifted.
I don’t know that much was discovered in this short investigation. It may well be that similar style and subject matter plus the spelling error leads to a possible association between Steve McGarrett and Britt Reid. And before I close, I should acknowledge that my search found non-birther commenters here who made the same spelling error. 😳
If these comments were posted by the same person, said author is certainly a fan of 70’s cop shows.

The misspelling… not so much. Obviously, someone came up with a mnemonic for the correct spelling because so many get it wrong.
Some people might think that’s enough evidence for a press conference…
Mike Zullo used the word “separate” in two affidavits. But those could have been autocorrected by the word processing software. When I tried to spell it with erat in this comment IE autocorrected it.
’70s cop shows? It sounds like someone has a bad case of the cop wannabes. And it really sounds like our pretend Cold Cut Posse Commandant Zoo-Low. Aren’t those re-runs getting a little stale? Funny, it looks like he purposely avoids “Get Smart!” A goal too far?
Interesting, but if I were the Maricopa County Prosecutor I’d call it speculation. 🙂
A British study reported it’s the “most commonly misspelt word”.
Of course, you have to take any study from people who think “spelled” is spelled “spelt” with 0.06479891 grammes of salt 😉
The other common theme of course is the promise of earth shattering information which of course will never come. Maybe they should use less dramatic terms such as slightly needle moving information or Pepto- Bismal inducing information.
Good lord, I read that very same book when I was in the second grade. About a boy being coached for a spelling bee by an old-timer who’d never forgotten how he lost years before. And I thought of exactly the same thing when I saw this “McGarrett” misspell the word. I can’t see the word spelled “seperate” without thinking of that.
😳 It looks like I made the mistake a few times. I feel better, however, when others who are much better writers than I have made the same error.

Speaking of birthers, misspellings and Leonard Daneman, I kind of got his goat the other day and he called me a “genuine, bone fide IDIOT.” And all I did was ask him what kind of client he had when he tried to be his own lawyer.
Excuse the diversion but have to admit I wouldn’t really find remembering “there’s a rat in separate” any easier than just remembering how to spell ‘separate’. It’s not as if it’s phrase that makes any sense lol.

I am a frequent poster on the Hannity website under the “One and only” birth certificate thread. Over a year ago, a poster appeared going by the name “Mr. Birth Certificate”.
He defended Zullo and made many references to the Hayes report. (this was about the time the Reed Hayes report came out). He also seemed to be so knowledgeable about the CCP investigation that I became convinced that it was Mike Zullo. I started calling him Mike and he never corrected me.
He must have said the wrong thing because he was banned from the forum after posting for about a month.

Indeed. One of the pages a saw when checking the claim about it being “most misspelled” suggested “The two As separate the two Es” as a mnemonic.

If this is Zullo he is misstating Hayes area of expertise. Hayes does not claim to be an expert in computer generated documents but only “computer generated handwriting”. There is a difference. Hayes is a handwriting analyst. He would not be allowed as an expert to opine on how a PDF file was created
my guess has been that “mcgarrett/mannix” isn’t zullo but had some kind of very limited contact with zullo at some point ( possibly an email exchange ). he seems confident that he has some inside information but everything he’s shared has either been public knowledge or birther distortion.
I was not aware of the comments made by Mannix at Birther Report being public before, the ones about Reed Hayes analyzing handwriting and not the electronic document artifacts.

I have a stronger reason to believe that Zullo is Mannix, but I am not at liberty to disclose it. (I hate to say stuff like that.)

frank arduini claimed to know who “steve mcgarrett” is ( and it wasn’t zullo ) so that throws a cog in that lineage.
I think the misspelling might be a giveaway among normal people, but birthers (and RWNJ’s in general) seem to have a disproportionately high number of bad spellers among them.
(Personally, I can spell “separate” because I can look to the German “separat” when I’m unsure. I only have to think twice about “definitely” and words with 3 vowels in a row like “ambiguous” or “miscellaneous”.)

Zullo’s not old enough to remember the 1950s. JFK was assassinated in 1963 and for Zullo to have been even in first grade, he would have to be 57 years old today, and I don’t think he is that old.
I remember comments at the time that some students at my rural Alabama school had clapped when the intercom announcement of JFK’s assassination came, although I don’t recall hearing any myself. I was 13 at the time.
Joe Mannix at BR said he was originally from New Jersey. Would New Jersey kids have clapped? Kennedy won the 1960 election in New Jersey by a narrow margin.
